Perhaps the worst movie I have ever seen.
The acting was so bad that there never was a moment I thought they were the actual characters. they just looked like they were....., acting. The lead characters were not at all convincing. The not subtle use of the actors wearing different shades of grey, or one wearing black and another white was absurdly obvious and demeaning to the viewer. The character development was minimal at best, the story line was choppy and never did build to a "climax." (too good a word to not use for the dual meaning) Even the "dominant" and "submissive" sex scenes couldn't salvage this terrible movie. I regret spending money buying this miserable movie. Well Worth Seeing to Explore Sexuality
I can totally understand why everybody went crazy over this series, it's definitely VERY sexy and spices up a boring sex life. BUT it only lets the male be in control (the ending left us hanging on purpose so maybe that changes--haven't read the books). Men already have control issues over us ladies which often ruins a relationship because it's not equal and the woman is left feeling used and empty esp if is forcing his sex desires on her against her will. Communication is still key to ANY relationship, it isn't just about sex the way the man wants it. It has to be mutual and consensual. The movie didn't really explore their relationship dynamics much. He is a twisted millionaire SOB in the beginning so maybe he does change for the better as he says she IS changing ... In business it works to be a sociopath but not so much in relationships as he learns when she walks away from him despite all he offers her money-wise. I would recommend this movie as a starting place for couples to explore their sexuality but definitely not an ending place where the one has total control over the other unless consensual. Maybe they can switch roles so one is dominant one time and submissive another time, then vice-a-versa. In long run unless agreed upon role as in their contract showed in movie NO relationship will work because it's one getting gratified while the other is left feeling used.

I love character studies, and this is prime example of that. Both characters learn and evolve together are wonderful. All new actors for me makes it easier to be interested in the storyline and as individual characters.. I was under the impression from other comments and reviews that this story was just about 'sadist' type sex. But far from the truth for me. For me, this is a story is about two people who are both vulnerable in their own lives. The young lady innocent and willing to learn about advancing her personal life, longing to be loved. The man is suffering from being physical and mentally abused and betrayed, but starving to be loved and secure. Together, they find a fulfillment they are desperately seeking. He learns what the wonder of true unselfish love from a woman ... I love character studies, and this is prime example of that. Both characters learn and evolve together are wonderful. All new actors for me makes it easier to be interested in the storyline and as individual characters.. He learns what the wonder of true unselfish love from a woman can be. She learns how to express her, becoming a more mature, compassionate woman, and for her to see him change with love and patience into a true gentle loving man. I liked this movie so well that I bought the Blu-ray set, and the book trilogy set. Looking sforward to buying the Part 2 and Part 3 Blu-ray .

I read the first book before deciding to watch the movie. I was quite moved by it and thought Dakota and Jamie did a great acting job. At times Dakota reminded me of Melanie G. since I am a big fan. It has to be really hard doing the sex scenes with all the camera men standing around watching giving them both kudos for pulling it off so well. Loved Charlie Tango and the expressions on both of their faces and especially the song played in the background. Ehhh
The movie was okay, but i don't understand all the hype everyone has for it. I know people in that "world" and they are offended by their way of defining it. But the idea of the movie is cute and has potential but it's not as great as everyone's saying. Sorry if this doesn't make sense but it's hard to explain overall an okay movie shouldn't have bought it though
