Historic Music
I have been listening to this music since it was first released in 1959 when I was a senior in high school. Although I have listened to this music all through the years I have always enjoyed this music no matter where jazz has gone. Besides Miles' playing it is Adderly's playing that has stayed with me. It took me awhile to realize why and what it was that was in his playing that always drew me back. When you compare the different players it is Adderly's "bluesiness" that is the draw. I noticed that in Wynton Kelly's playing as well that "bluesiness" that also drew me back but Kelly is only on one track "Freddie Freeloader" a blues tune. Bill Evan's was the pianist on the other tracks and who adlibbed the intro to "So What". This was and is an historic album that was recorded in that ... MILES DAVIS: KIND OF BLUE - HEAVENLY.
What can I say, "It's Miles Davis baby at his best." This CD is a staple in my life, on my Ipod and played for every occasion. Around the Holidays, cooling out in the office or while I work, driving in the car or when the gang is over and we want to talk and have the perfect backdrop for the conversation. Truly excellent. It really shows how much of a genius Miles was to have sketched out the parts for the musicians that joined him, just hours before! Jimmy Cobb was right when he said, "This album was made in heaven." Because it's perfect. All the important elements came together, effortlessly. John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Cannonball Adderley on Alto Saxophone, Bill Evans on piano, Wynton Kelly piano - song # 2, Jimmy Cobb on drums. And Miles on trumpet baby bringing this wonderful ... What can I say, "It's Miles Davis baby at his best." This CD is a staple in my life, on my Ipod and played for every occasion. Wonderful Music
I bought this for a History of Jazz college course that I am taking. The CDs are very relaxing and wonderful music. This music, according to the book, was ranked in the top 10 all time great albums in Rolling Stone magazine and is in the top 100 of the best selling albums of all time. The book really allows you to be there for the two recording sessions that produced "Some Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis!I bought this for a History of Jazz college course that I am taking. The CDs are very relaxing and wonderful music. This music, according to the book, was ranked in the top 10 all time great albums in Rolling Stone magazine and is in the top 100 of the best selling albums of all time.
