This early science fiction classic (1956) has been described as an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. Starring Walter Pidgeon, Leslie Nielsen & a teenaged Anne Francis, it is the story of a rescue mission sent to find what happened to an earlier expedition to the 4th planet of the star Altair. Dr. Morbius (Pidgeon) and his 18-yr-old daughter Altaira (Francis) are the only survivors. The crew of the flying-saucer-shaped interstellar cruiser are stunned when Dr. Morbius informs them he has discovered Altair-4 was once the home of a super-advanced civilization of a non-human race called the Krell. High production values are seen throughout the film, with Special Effects provided by Disney's animation studio (no computer F/X in 1956!). Often cited as the greatest sci-fi landmark film before '2001: A Space Odyssey' (1969).Vollständige Rezension lesen

"Forbidden Planet" is an epic vast fantasy science fiction adventure that dominated movies before Star Wars. Watching it now you are still thrilled at it's mind blowing special effects, huge ideas, and great story telling. A movie that will always stand tall as a classic. It was one of three fantastic Science Fiction films that took us far into space. Forbidden Planet was made in the 50's. It ruled as the ultimate science fiction adventure like today's Star Wars. the other two sci-fi films that blew the public's minds were "This Island Earth" and "Planet of the Vampires". All three had incredible art direction ( so much so, that when I work on Hollywood films today, us union art guys {Local 790} often sit around the art department and talk about these 3 film masterpieces and how they shot scenes ), use of special effects for the day, and of course great story telling. Buy this great DVD. Enjoy the story behind the most famous Robot of all time; Robby the Robot, and hear behind the scenes tales.Vollständige Rezension lesen

--- WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE???... This 50th anniversary special DVD of a stunningly forward-looking film (for 1954!!) has extra scenes and dialogue, period movie trailers (EVER so POPULAR 'back in the day' in the old 'movie houses' we all used to haunt on Saturdays), and an entire extra MOVIE, 'THE INVISIBLE BOY', featuring the feature film's featured star, 'Robbie the Robot'... --- Why did I BUY IT???... Oh Pa-LEEEEZE!!! I first watched this movie as a much fascinated boy with my MOM in about 1964... SHE recommended the film to me, in particular making mention of 'Robbie' and how 'realistic he seemed'... --- So you see, this film is part of my heritage... I must have seen it eighty times by now and the thrill is still there... 'FORBIDDEN PLANET', when compared to contemporary sci/fi films of the day, has absolutely no equal... To own one is second nature to me... The richness of the sound, the video quality and the production enhancements of this anniversary issue are all the more reason to purchase this... Leslie Nielsen's Commander Adams is a real 'look-ahead' to such characters as Captains James T. Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard & Benjamin Sisko of 'STAR TREK'; no-nonsense leaders who take problems 'by the throat', plus a supporting cast of able officers who equally handle their responsibilities with dash & flair... Plus, I've truly yet to see another film SINCE tackle the ever-mysterious, cloudy, shadowy world of the human subconscious as does THIS FILM... (Perhaps 'SILENCE OF THE LAMBS') --- I'm a born-again Christian, and WE call this part of ourselves 'the SIN NATURE'... There is a lesson to be learned in the merciless, dark, destructive & malevolent nature of 'the ID Monster' as depicted in the movie... HOW LOW will WE STOOP if we are reduced to our basest, lowest motivations and darkest intents; left to run amok, and then given LIMITLESS POWER to express this perversity at the expense of all else??...One shudders at the THOUGHT... ---You want to know WHY I bought the film??? Because it's GREAT ENTERTAINMENT; something today's idiotic, over budgeted maledictions from Hollywood cannot match, with ALL their computer-generated CRAP... Also, early in the film Doctor Ostrow (Warren Stevens) makes the comment observing the approach to the mysterious planet Altair IV: "The LORD sure makes some BEAUTIFUL worlds..." How did THAT escape the censors???... Perhaps in the film's final sequence Leslie Nielsen sums it up best as he embraces the beautiful Altaira Morbius (Anne Francis) on the C-57D's bridge as the ship begins the long trip home... "After all, Alta, such things as this remind us that WE ARE NOT GOD..." --- There it is; fascination, fantasia, forward-vision, FUN... And YES, EVEN a little 'FAITH'... As I said at the beginning of this; WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE???Vollständige Rezension lesen
Thank this Seller for making a this quality movie and excelletn dvd available. Truly a breakthrough in SciFi beginning with the great (for that time) special effects, with more actual reasons for why the activity and actions are occurring. The robot is humanized, but not to the point of being human, and has the mechanical/electrical functions and safeguards you would expect. The excellent cast actually acts, instead of trying to make career advancing screen points and satisfaction of their own egos. Unlike the shallow performers of today. The plot says something about great achieve, not that you attempted to be God-like, but that no one ever can consider all the angles, until you put yourself in a corner, as did the Krell and Morbius. There are many stale and (today) dated human flirtations and interactions, but that was acceptable at the time. The only major flaw is the extremely poor, undramatic, and unmemorable music. If this movie had a John Williams, Korngold, Steiner, Goldsmith, etc. solid theme and mood music scorewriter, resulting in a good soundtrack this would have been a much greater movie. However, the studio stpped a little too far into the future by trying to emulate Krell type music ((I pity the Krell), so it, like the Krell and Morbius, when beyond their capabilities of trying all things and actually making them work. This Seller is very good.Vollständige Rezension lesen
A Classic Sci Fi Movie for everyone~ PLOT: SPACE CRUISER FULL OF MEN CAPTAIN (YOUNG AND HANDSOME) YES HE WAS (Leslie Neilson) arrive at the LAST HOME OF DR. MORBIUS (Walter Pigeon) and his lovely daughter (Anne Francis). The fun begins when the Captain and his crew are "warned off" the planet but push ahead any way~ gee like sailors on leave they all fall over themselves trying to get the "attention" of the lovely ULTARA~ Anne Francis who is at the very least a total innocent of men~having only been around her protective father~ ADD Robbie the Robot who can make just about anything the crew or Morbius OR Ultara wants. ~ some great fun is watching the captain have his advances brushed off by the lovely Ultara ADD the mysterious and invisible "killer" stalking the crew at night. cleverly we only can spot the footprints of the monster who we can tell is one UGLY big monster by his foot print alone~ but who or WHAT ?warned the crew to stay away from the planet and what is the purpose of killing them off one by one and why is the killer leaving Morbius and his daughter alone? GREAT thriller plot and ending!~ very good special effects for this movie add the erie music and this is a classic sci fi fun you will watch more than once~ I GIVE IT A SOLID 9 OUT OF 10 FOR MYSTERY THRILLS AND FUN~Vollständige Rezension lesen
