I feel much more secure now that I have a decent GPS. I've heard good things about Garmin, so that's the brand I decided to go with, and I lucked out with the model that I wanted. Finding it on Ebay for cheap! :) The only thing that I don't love about it is that sometimes it seems to freeze if it's not warmed up much. And, it needs to be updated frequently for the amount of travel I will be doing with it, since if there's roadwork or detours, it doesn't know, and doesn't easily give me alternate routes. That would be a great feature.... To be able to click a button letting the machine know there's a detour at a specific place so it can easily help find an alternate route. But really, I love this thing. And folks are right. Garmin is the best!!
If you want a basic function GPS, this one is OK. I should have done my homework before purchasing and was disappointed to learn this unit does not accept routes programmed on your computer. The only routes it will follow are the ones that it self generate and that is often useless for my preferences. If you are looking to plan out a scenic vacation route on your computer using the excellent free Garmin Basecamp maps, be sure the GPS you select is compatible. The model 660 is not.

Your basic (discontinued) wide-screen GPS. Nice big colorful screen. Voice is clear & the bluetooth works great. Just not sure why they put them in GPSes. It has to compete with road noise and the stereo, and the speaker points at the window. Same comment about the MP3 player. Why? I guess adding more stuff sells GPSes. Garmin probably has the best mapping engine, so that's all that counts. Yeah, tell that to all the people with 2 pound cell phones that also make pop-corn. Pay around $50 for a clean one, and it's a deal. It does what it's supposed to.
This is a more upscale GPS unit with more features and versatility. There are two options to power it externally. The antenna extends out to activate the receiver and has an external antenna jack for a roof mounted antenna which I use often with improved results. I like the quick access to the signal status screen (just briefly touch the signal bars in the upper left corner of the screen).

I purchased this unit to replace a similar unit that was stolen. Being that I had the other unit for years, without any problems, I wanted a similar unit that I was so familiar with, that I could operate it instinctively. This unit, as advertised, is a right out of the box unit. The setup is that quick. Once the map for the desired location is displayed, touching the above green menu bar gives the projected step by step directions. There certain nuances, such as finding let's say Route 60 West. When you type that in, the unit may read "No Match". In this case you should just enter 60 and let the uhit do the work. You may be given choices eg. Rt 60 W and Rt 60 E. It is a great little unit that packs a lot of features for its size. It always gets you where you need to be.
