It took a little tweaking, but finally got the display to right frequency and levels for use. Not all that intuitive, so I fumbled a bit. The price was attractive and the Samsung LCD tv's we've been looking at prompted the purchase. A few areas of the screen tend to blur the text slightly, but graphics, jpegs and mpegs really pop. I reccomend going to Samsung's web site and downloading the owners manual (it didn't ship in the box) to maximize the potential of the display. I don't use the pivot function that much, but it works well and would be a boon to someone working on documents all day.
I had been using a 17 inch monitor for the past 10 years and I started to notice that many of the websites I visited were formatted for a wider screen - at least at the setting I was using. It was annoying scrolling left and right to see all the content. If I changed settings to accomodate the width of the site then it was too small for me to enjoy. Once I started looking into larger screens I figured it wasn't enough to upgrade to a 19 or 22 inch screen, I might as well go for something really big. A leading consumer ratings magazine rated the Samsung 245BW as the top rated 24 inch monitor and I have to agree. This is a superb monitor - 24 inches is a BIG monitor and the resolution is OUTSTANDING. I set it up in about 15 minutes. It fit on my desk easily and has height and viewing angle adjustments. With more websites featuring streaming video this is a great upgrade. It does take some getting used to. If I use the full screen mode I need to make the cursor move farther from one icon to another - my mouse gets a workout. One thing I noticed - the large monitor does not make small images larger, but it does make it possible to see all of a large image at once... or at least more of it. I plan to use this monitor for at least 10 years. I did find a great bargain on eBay - under $400 - brand new with full warranty available.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I like the monitor because it's simple to set up and it works really well. I use a lot of applications simultaneously so the increased desktop is really helpful. I also use graphics quite a bit and the size and resolution really help. I had heard some concerns expressed by "professional" users but, for the price and the "average professional user", this is a winner.

I'm using two Syncmasters 245bw currently in a dual head setup on a contemporary UNIX distribution. With this monitors max resolution of 1920x1200 @ 24bit a dual screen setup can be a quite astonishing panoramic experience. After comparing quite a lot of monitors of different brands in multiple stores i've decided to use Samsungs syncmasters because for the high picture quality they offer. They fall in the 'affordable but excellent quality' category. UNIX users be aware though if you want to use the new DVI interface. The monitors firmware, which provides the EDID information to your graphics board, varies highly with the models manufacturing date. Newer monitors provide correct information while older ones might put you in trouble reporting a max resolution of 1024x800. As Linux/UNIX users we're used to do little mod, quick hack here and there, and if you happen to get one of the older models, there will be no exception. You'll have to force your graphics driver to overide the EDID information. Not a problem though with current NVIDIA drivers, cant speak for ATI though. I'm driving now both of them (one old version i have to tweak EDID and one new version which works plug and play) on a dual head dvi nvidia card with all GL extensions (you want to have especially XRandR) and i'm VERY happy with it.Vollständige Rezension lesen
