Product Information

In the realm where puerile plotlines and locker-room humor meet hardcore shooter action, Duke is king, and after a decade-long hiatus, the king returns in Duke Nukem Forever. With development completed by Gearbox Software for a 2011 release, the game incorporates many contemporary first-person shooter features, but the destructible surroundings, larger-than-life enemies, and high-adventure pacing are in classic Duke Nukem form.

In a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas setting of crumbling roadways and toppled buildings, mission levels are stocked with grizzly pig-cop enemies, monstrous alien bosses, and plenty of hot babes in various states of undress and need of rescue. As he frags and gibs his way through each gory sequence, Duke rattles off an arsenal of deadpan one-liners to rival Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bruce Campbell in their action-flick heydays (as well as some that were probably lifted from their movies in the first place).

Available weapon set-ups include two-fisted pistols and the traditional shotgun, as well as more fantastical devices, such as the shrink ray that lets Duke squish enemies beneath his boot heels. Players can also get behind the wheel of vehicles they encounter in the game, and some sequences have Duke manning powerful stationary weapons. Along the way, story-driven character interactions allow players to express some of their innermost machismo urges.

After saving the world (in 3D) the first time (on MS-DOS, PlayStation, N64, and other mid-'90s gaming platforms), Duke Nukem disappeared -- or so the story goes. When the angry alien invaders returned, and tore into civilization with a vengeance, the great hero was nowhere to be found. When they started stealing away the planet's hottest babes, however, it was enough to bring Duke out of retirement and into the fray, with an "all out of bubblegum" sense of urgency.

  • DNF a game with a mixed of the old days & modern style gameplay

Well theres alot of debate between a love and hate relationship of gamers when they played this game but im going to give a more general and foward review as i just gathering my thoughts about it. Now this game unlike its predeccesocer duke nukem 3d is a mixed between that and a modernize style of gameplay such as regenarating health, platforming, puzzle solving and vehicles. the game is quite linear as a run and gun of kill enemies and procced to the next area. but to keep things from such boredoom they added the modern style of other types of small task along the way such as i just explained. also theres a huge debate on how horrible the load times can be such as taking up to even a min. plus and when you die it has to load for about 20 to 30 secs until it can pick up where you where and ...

  • Bottom line, if this game didn't have Duke in it... it would be 2 stars.

This game is dated....BAD. I'm not saying it doesn't bring back a sense of nostalgia or it's not playable but the lengthy load times while respawning or waiting for the next level to load will definitely have you playing on easy or wishing you did. Also, the fluidity of the game is kind of choppy at best and the lack of certain conditioned aspects such as multiple save data files can be a throw back to the days when Michael Jackson ruled the pop charts and not the cemetery (Don't get offended, he became the zombie king when he made Thriller, just think of him as being on world tour). Graphics are good, they are not as bad as people are insinuating, and the interactivity and fun factor are there, as long as you have a sailor's ears and mind like a horny 13 year old. There are certain ...

  • still stuck in the past

Wrapped up in this stomach-churning wrapper is a shooter trapped in time. Some enemy encounters are surprisingly modern and entertaining, while others seem like fossils from various bygone eras. Circle-strafing boss battles and minecart sections recall the mid- to late-nineties. Sections playing as a shrunken-Duke seem like they were ripped out of the early Unreal Tournament mod-scene. Simple physics-puzzles come straight out of 2005. Low-res textures, accompanied by pop-in, make the game look like an early Xbox 360 shooter. This contrast is actually rather interesting, and many sections of the game are quite enjoyable. However, it's impossible to isolate these sections from the game as a whole, and DNF is a game that revels in misogyny and its own sense of importance.Much was made of ...

  • Brings back memories

I’m so happy to have gotten this game. I use to play Duke on my computer a very long time ago and so I’m glad to have found this one. Thanks again.

  • Better than original.. May be easier than most FPS but endless # of levels

Great game... About time they released a Duke Nukem game for PS3. Felt like I was 14yr old again playing this :) Graphics are awesome, characters are well developed, and story line is well laid too. Played on hardest setting but wasn't as hard as i expected (compared to hardest on other 1st person shooters). However, it has plenty of levels to make up for how fast you pass them. In fact, I blew through some 15+ levels and beat a huge/very hard boss (took some 25 tries) only to find I was only halfway through the game. I was actually disappointed for a min thinking i had beat the whole game in a few days only to be excited it wasn't over yet. Not a waste after all... Definitely a game to BUY not RENT!!
