Like his friend Vince Gill, Brad Paisley has achieved the often-difficult feat of reconciling being an entertainer and world-class guitarist. He's proven that on four admirable albums, and 5th Gear follows in that vein. Certainly "Ticks," an airy, radio-friendly ditty, is not the true substance here. That comes with such superior fare as the insightful "All I Wanted Was a Car" and "Online," a sly satire of people's Web facades. While his duet with Carrie Underwood ("Oh Love") is a bit cut and dried, Paisley ably handles "Letter to Me," "It Did," and "Mr. Policeman," a 21st-century outrun-the-law tune. The closing hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven," and ripping instrumental "Throttleneck" are Paisley at his best. It's admirable that he invites his venerable buddies, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Vince Gill, and Bill Anderson, along with Dolly Parton, to join in, but the obligatory "Kung Pao Buckaroos" skit is wearing a bit thin. Better to feature them musically, the way he includes Dickens, Gill, and Anderson on "Bigger Fish to Fry." in a time where lines between county and pop are blurring far too much, it's comforting to know Paisley still realizes and respects the differences. -Rich Kienzle.

A textbook of country guitar.
The thing I enjoy most about this album is Brad Paisley's guitar playing. He effortlessly burns, and his palate of tones is terrific. On this record his six-string consistently delivers. The singing and songwriting are standard Paisley fare: seldom cliche, smoothly alternating between quite clever and achingly corny. The music here is polished to a high luster throughout, and is impeccably produced. Because this is undeniably a country album, its main appeal will be to aficionados and guitar players. It does't transcend the genre enough to be considered an over-arching classic, but millions of fans are right: this is a fine example of top-tier modern country. Best Yet!!!!
Having heard almost every Brad Paisley song out there, I must say that this cd is easily his best work. Like most Paisley cds it has every range of song; from upbeat, funny to sentimental love songs. If you like other Brad cd's you will certainly not be disappointed with 5th gear. Likewise, if you like the first single "ticks" you'll be pleased because there are a few other songs that display the same wit. "I'm still a Man" is similar in the clever lyrics. A sure single is "Online" This is by far my favorite track on the album. It's a clever look at the way people's looks become exaggerated while chatting on the internet. This track is so funny, you will have to listen to it again and again! The song discusses an overweight, ... Another great track is "Letter to Me" which does just that...it tells what he would write to himself at the age of 17. It's a slower song and really tells the truth on a lot of things. It tells of things he sees now but didn't understand at the young age of 17. Basically they are life-lessons Lastly, another slower song "It Did" is an amazing look at life. It describes several moments in life and how you may think it can't get better, but it can!!! It's a very emotional and inspirational look at life. Overall this album is amazing. There's something for everyone on this. If you're into comedy, it's here. If you like love songs, they're here. If you like to just have a good time, you will with this album...his best yet! *****

Keepin' It Real!
We all know Brad Paisley has sold a gazillion albums and he's one of country's greats, so there's nothing I can really say that someone else hasn't already. I just wanted to repeat the one thing that most impresses me about this artist and ALL of his albums ... his consistency in making sure there is at least one gospel track on EVERY cd he produces. We all know that religion can be a "trend" sometimes and if everyone in Hollywood is doing it, then it's pretty common to see lots of artist jump onto the band wagon. However, Brad Paisley's inclusion of at least one gospel track on every cd came before the latest "hollywood gospel trend" and has continued long after. I just want to say KEEP IT UP, BRAD! Buying Brad Paisley Cd's
I love Brad Paisley and was eager to find his newest cd *5th Gear*. I love his song "Ticks" and I was able to find the cd without a problem. I bought this cd a month ago and I listen to it every day. I even bought a second cd just so I have one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. Brad Paisley has done it again and given his all in this cd of heart felt song. The cd is so good that every home should have one, even if it is for those calm times that everyone needs.I love Brad Paisley and was eager to find his newest cd *5th Gear*. I love his song "Ticks" and I was able to find the cd without a problem. I bought this cd a month ago and I listen to it every day.
