Seine Schauspielertruppe Lord Chamberlain's Men ist im elisabethanischen England bereits legendar, mit der Kroenung von Jakob I. geniesst sie ab 1603 koenigliche Patronage und benennt sich um zu The Kings' Men. Weltberuhmt und steinreich kehrt er 1610 als Gentleman aus London zuruck in seine Geburtsstadt Stratford-upon-Avon. Am 23. April 1616, seinem 52. Geburtstag, stirbt dort mit William Shakespeare einer der groessten Dichter aller Zeiten.
