Although thousands of them already line up each August to catch the latest edition of gaming's most recognized annual title, it's safe to say that football fans and sports gamers will have an even harder time passing on the "06" version of Madden NFL. This edition of the long-running series introduces a few changes and additions, designed to make the challenges of executing on offense feel more realistic than ever before. The most obvious changes to this year's edition come in the passing game, which introduces gameplay features based on quarterback-specific attributes. Most notable is the new "Vision Cone," which simulates the QB's field of view with a highlighted cone that fans out in the direction of the current intended receiver. The feature is designed to force the player on offense to commit earlier in the play, and to telegraph his passes much more realistically than in earlier versions of Madden, making those improbably easy "no-look" completions a thing of the past. The range of the vision cone is based on multiple factors, including the quarterback's "talent" attribute rating and the difficulty settings at which the game is being played. Madden NFL 06 also brings a new "Precision Passing" system to the series, which allows quarterbacks some direct control over the accuracy of their passes. By bumping the left analog stick or D-pad in the desired direction as the ball is passed, QBs can aim high, low, in front, or behind their receivers, allowing them to lead the catcher away from coverage or make use of height advantages. Other features, more familiar to gaming's most popular sports series, are also present in Madden 06, along with new replay camera angles, animations, and other presentational upgrades. There's also an offensive answer to last year's defensive "hit stick" mechanic, which allows ball carriers to try to plow through oncoming hits and blocks with a flick of commitment on the analog stick. As usual, this edition of Madden is designed to offer a highly customizable game of football, and players who prefer the more forgiving play design of earlier editions can simply turn off the Vision Cone -- or nearly any other element that conflicts with their personal style of play. The game also includes all the teams, stadiums, and players of the real-life NFL (thanks to an exclusive license that takes effect for the first time this year).

One of the better Maddens, better than 07
I would have to say that Madden 06 had the franchise going in the right drection again. The biggest addition to the game this year was the Quaterback "cone" vision. Basically the Quaterback has to be "looking" at the reciever for him to throw it accurately(have the cone over the reciever). Madden and Al Micheals have great commentary this year and actually say the right things at the right time. The soundtrack is alright, but I think that Madden soundtracks have been going downhill for sometime. 07 soundtrack is absurd, I don't even what to start. The Xbox control scheme is different to get used to if you play PS2 or Gamecube but you can pick it up rather quickly. The graphics/animations are good to but do have some spin move problems that a player can get "sucked" into a defender ... Madden NFL 2006 is Very Good
I have been playing Madden for 15 years now, which is pretty scary. Remember Sega? While the EA Sports NHL Hockey series was always my favorite, Madden NFL was a close second. That said, over the last several years, I felt that both of these series have become less playable. Obviously, the graphics have been improving over time, but the game play itself was more fun to me in the mid 90's. I think Madden 2006 has finally put an end ot this. The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is also much improved over previous versions. This game has all of the bells and whistles of previous years, but also has added just a better feel. The differences might be subtle, but noticeable to the experienced Madden player. In past, I have felt that running the ball was too difficult. Now, it ... It can be a little difficult to switch players and react quickly enough on defense, catching the ball, etc. Madden 2006 still has some of these issues, which is why I haven't given it an Excellent rating. That said, I highly recommend this game on the xBox!

The Madden Franchise Continues
This is a very good game for the faithful Madden followers. This year the Quarterback (QB) position has been revamped with a special "Field of Vission" which will enable the QB to place the pass more effectively in targeted spots to the receivers. The drawback of course is that you alert defenders to where you are passing as they can see your "Field of Vission". I guess this kind of happens in real life as defenders read QBs eyes, it's the same premise. Football game players know that Madden is essential to their Xbox collection and this game is no different. You will enjoy it if you are football gamer.This is a very good game for the faithful Madden followers. Madden NFL has an exclusive liscense to the NFL players, trademarks, and other properties. This means that you won't find any other authentic game out there with up to date players, teams, or coaches. So basically it's Madden or bust. Fortunately this game is pretty good and if you like football you won't be disappointed. This game offers a rousing and realistic game of football with plenty of gaming modes. You can put together a tournament featuring your favorite teams, you can play an entire season including training camp, or you can just play an exhibition game. A nice feature for me was the football 101 sessions with Madden coaching me while I practiced different plays with my favorite teams. I bought this game because my neighbor is a quarterback for a division 1AA team and we wanted to enter the plays as a way for him to learn them. It's great for that because we are able to enter almost everything except putting men in motion, that would be a nice addition to the playmaking ability. I don't like the gameplay as much as NCAA 07. Madden isn't as realistic so that's where they lost points with me. The quarterback vision addition is ok once you get used to it but it's no good when your playing head to head because you want to preselect your reciever and the opponent knows exactly where your going.
