  • Christopher Lee Rhyne Review 199

Rosie speaks about fame and her life. When Rosie was ten years old her mother had cancer, this was probably the start to later adulthood social issues. THE VIEW didn't help matters because Rosie wanted the power position on The View. Rosie explains deep desires, copes in life, personal life, commercial friendships, life long friendships & Rosie's return to television. Remember four years have passed and some grips on reality probably turned into anxiety. Book had more info on her children and other issues. Rosie thought Barbara Walters might have been her lost mother, but conflict seperated the two quickly. Rosie was financially stable, The View was nothing more than an itch after four years or celebrity attention. But The View had 4 already and maybe the show didn't need a fifth ...

  • Suprisingly Thoughtful Read

I don't normally read books about celebs or by celebs. Until reading this book I really knew little about Rosie other than what the news media likes to show the public (ususally her loud and brash side). I have never watched an episode of The View or of Rosie's syndicated show. This book shows you the side of Rosie that the news media tends to conveniently forget about. It shows her human-ness. It shows a fierce mama who adores her kids and cherishes her time with them. It shows the struggles of a woman trying to stay true to herself and just be who she is - sometimes pushing people's buttons along the way. While I don't always 100% agree with Rosie, particularly with some of her political views, this book gives me a newfound respect for her and the next time the news media splashes ...

  • Fantastic Read

I managed to get a advance copy from a friend who works for a major News Paper in NYC. I loved the book. It was such an enjoyable read. Ms. O'Donnell takes you on a journey which at times is not only painful and uplifting but also inspirational. She connects so well with the masses because she is brutally honest and has a very approachable style of writing. Rosie blows the lid off the "drug" called fame. You come away wondering if fame and fortune is all it's cracked out to be. Reading this book provoked many thoughts and questions about my own life, I applaud Ms. O'Donnell for her bravery and her amazing spirit.

  • Awesome!

This book is a very easy read. I've read it before, so when I read it again, it was even more enlightening and relevant with Rosie's life today. As a long time fan of hers, I find her honesty about herself and her vulnerabilities very refreshing. She explains her complexities as best as she can (which, by the way is very well) and she does not shy away from the ever so hard question that we ask need to ask ourselves:"could it be me?". I strongly recommend this book. It's quite insightful!

  • Celebrity Detox by Rosie O'Donnell (2007)

This book seemed like Rosie O'Donnell's attempt to explain why she wasn't liked by Barbara Walter's & the cast at The View but it came off as a whine about why she was right and everyone else was wrong. And a poorly written one at that. This book rambled and seemed like a rant at times. In one sentence she can vilify celebrity but then admit to being somewhat "addicted" to the things celebrity brings, hence the title. I guess people who love Rosie O'Donnell might like this book but to me if came off as somewhat childish & bitter.
