"This book is a real turning point that explains something I've been trying to figure out for years. Having experienced symptoms of both ADHD and mild depression, I have personally witnessed the powerful effects of exercise, and I've suspected that the health benefits go way beyond just fitness. Exercise is not simply necessary, as Dr. Ratey clearly shows, it's medicine."-- Greg LeMond , Three-time winner of the Tour de France, SPARK is just what we need-a thoughtful, interesting, scientific treatise on the powerful and positive impact of exercise on the brain. In mental health, exercise is a growth stock and Ratey is our best broker., "At last a book that explains to me why I feel so much better if I run in the morning! This very readable book describes the science behind the mind-body connection and adds to the evidence that exercise is the best way to stay healthy, alert, and happy!"-- Dr. Susan M. Love , Dr. Susan Love's Menopause and Hormone Book and Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book, At last a book that explains to me why I feel so much better if I run in the morning! People know that exercise helps just about everything, except anorexia, but it will surprise most people just how dramatically it improves all areas of mental functioning. So, get moving! You're brain will thank you and repay you many times over., "Every woman and man on the planet needs to read "Spark," It will not only ignite their desire to exercise, but they will feel more positive and have energy to spare." -- Kick Up Your Heels Before You're Too Short to Wear Them "Loretta LaRoche", This book is a real turning point that explains something I've been trying to figure out for years. • Excellent Book!

An interesting and easy read. Super valuable information that I have put to use for many years; it's great to find validation. The human body was designed for physical work and this book proves it. Quite scientific yet spoken in the vernacular, these principles applied to anyone's daily life will result in improved physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health........it's really a no brainer.

  • Interesting and Intriguing, A Bit Out of Date

The book discusses the influence of exercise, particularly aerobic exercise, on all aspects of ones mental state. The claims are pretty broad. With all of the brain science that has gone on since its publication, it could really use an update, just to demonstrate that the claims are borne out.

  • Spark by John Ratey

I loved this book! I read this for a final project in school, and I'm very glad I chose this book. I used to exercise a lot when I played basketball in high school, and worked out when I've had time in college, but not on a regular basis. This book has re-motivated me to get back on a work out routine, and now I'll be more aware of some amazing benifits of exercise. The research Dr. Ratey has done is amazing, and it has reminded me of how good I did feel when I was on a better exercise routine. Overall a very interesting book with great case studies, and it is definitely worth reading. It does seem to repeat itself at times, but it's not so noticeable that it gets on your nerves.

  • Spark deals with stress anxiety and depression along with many other topics
