Even Reluctant Middle-School Readers Love this Book!
Jeff Kinney's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw" is the third in a series of books that are designed to look as if they were written and illustrated by Greg Heffley, "The Wimpy Kid," a wise-cracking, self-centered, middle-schooler whose life is filled with suburban misadventures. He has an over-sized head, a prominent nose and three strands of hair. If the other two installments are any indication, many non-reading children, especially boys, may finally be willing to pick up a book. "The Last Straw" opens with Greg's entry on resolutions to make himself a better person: "Well, the problem is, it's not easy for me to think of ways to improve myself, because I'm already pretty much one of the best people I know." His family consists of an older and younger brother who cause all the ... The over-riding joke throughout the book is that Greg is a deeply flawed protagonist. Some adults miss the joke and complain about Greg's shortcomings, but most kids understand that he isn't perfect and that is precisely why they like him. Perhaps "The Last Straw's" greatest appeal is that many "reluctant readers"- especially boys, who generally seek entertainment from the Internet, television, and video games- are excited about reading this series. Adults will also find humor in the book, if they approach it with an open mind. The thing to bear in mind is that kids may laugh at Bart Simpson, but they know it isn't appropriate to act like him.

If you combine three things- 1)a reluctant reader that is a boy between the ages 7-10, 2)a wimpy kid book of any title, and 3)that is written by the the author Jeff Kinney then what you get is = a parent that can thank their lucky stars! Wimpy kid books are about a kid that is just normal and living life as he travels through many situations that are funny, relatable, and sort of awful.Every kid has had one of these moments that is told in the various books and it gives power to being the uncertian in this big world. Buy the set and don't look back.If you combine three things- 1)a reluctant reader that is a boy between the ages 7-10, 2)a wimpy kid book of any title, and 3)that is written by the the author Jeff Kinney then what you get is = a parent that can thank their lucky stars! These books are excellent for kids ages 8 to 11 they encourage the kids to read with the funny little stick people and short stories and sayings. The Diary of a wimpy kid Do it yourself book is a cute little diary that gives kids a chance to share their own thoughts and idea on what they think. The back of the book has a diary for them to keep of their daily events. The rest of the book ask questions the kids can answer in their own words it has a place on the front for them to put their own picture. They get to draw in this hard back book which to kids is something you never get to do is right in your books. This book encourages the kids to do so to open up and tell little things about themselves and their families as well as share activities at school with friends and teacher. It ... great book, funny, hilarious
My daughter hated the fact that she lost sleep because of the book, she simply could not put it down. In-fact she read the first two books in one school week!! She also liked that it related to real-life issues. I loved the fact that the book encouraged to read more. Even though she loves to read anyway. I also like the fact that my two younger boys will most likely enjoy this series when they are older and it will encourage them to become more interested in reading. I just hope that Jeff Kinney continues to come up with many more brilliant stories.My daughter hated the fact that she lost sleep because of the book, she simply could not put it down.
