I picked this up after enjoying the sequel/followup, Samurai Legend Musashi. It's a quirky title with great voice acting and a weird (but funny!) sense of humor. Not having an instruction booklet makes things a little tricky - the game doesn't really hold your hand, and it's easy to make silly mistakes and get yourself killed. The good news is that there's not too much of a penalty for dying... once you figure out how to save. If you can pick this up for a reasonable amount, give it a shot!

I bought Brave Fencer: Musashi last week because it was one of the few games I remember from the PS1 era. I had played through the first 2 chapters in the Japanese version (only reason I stopped at 2 was because I couldn't read japanese and didn't know what the next objective was), and I had always wanted to finish the game. Not that I'm an avid game collector, but this title is one of those few games that Square-Enix put on the PS1 that left it's mark. If you ask RPG gamers what games they remember from the PS1, this would definitely be one of them. The gameplay has a concept with two swords and the big one is where you dish your damage out of but with the little one, you can absorb enemy abilities. That's what makes this game different from it's predecessors. To get through certain areas, you have to absorb the enemy abilities around you. While it can get annoying at times to find the enemy and then walk back to where you need to be, it also forces you to think and gives the game it's puzzle qualities. The game also has a daytime nighttime scheme going, and you have to keep Musashi fed and also let him sleep or else you'll start noticing him moving around sluggishly and whatnot. While that may sound complicated, it's just one of those things where you keep him stocked up and you'll have no problems. You also level up in the game in 4 different categories and leveling them up will give you perks when it comes to puzzles that you encounter. Overall, if you enjoy action RPGs (sort of like Crisis Core for the PSP) then you'll definitely enjoy this game. It'll give you puzzles and other things along the way to keep you entertained.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This game is a true gem and quite frankly one of Squaresoft's (now Square Enix) best rpg games ever made. I bought this because this was one of my fist games on the Playstation, so there's a sentimental value to it for me. The most vivid memory I have of this game is running from an Easter Island head (a la Indiana Jones-sytle) off the side of a huge tower. Brave Fencer Musashi allows you to copy your opponent's abilities as your own which not only helps in battle, but also severs to solve puzzles as well. For instance, in the beginning of the game you have to cross a river that is too wide to jump over. On the other side are a row of trees that can be shot to make a bridge. You have to find an enemy that has a gun, assimilate his ability and shoot the trees to advance the story. Fans of games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or any adventure game will enjoy this PS classic.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Brave Fancer musashi is a restricted environment game like FF7 it is developed by Squaresoft. A GREAT play. Music, voices, fighting everything is top notch for a classic game. http://www.5min.com/Video/Brave-Fencer-The-Legend-of-Musashi---Gameplay---Part-1-185966991 this link has a few videos of story and game play as well as commentary. You are summoned as a hero "Musashi" to save a kingdom from invasion. You start with 2 swords that have VERY different strengths and abilities. Fusion has the ability to assimilate powers from enemies and Lumina has scroll abilities you must earn used for major damage, solving puzzles, and opening new paths! lots of side "quest" opportunities such as finding captured villagers and strengthening your swords. GL and have fun!!!!!!!
A product back when square was in its experimental stages. It was an action rpg that had wonderful graphics for its time, great gameplay mechanics, a cute story that featured a colorful cast of cheeky characters. People initially brought this game for the ff viii demo but didnt expect this game to bring them quite the exoerience. They dont do games like this luke they used to w/c makes this a must have for every retro os1 game collector.
