Product Information

Samus Aran makes her GameCube debut in a title that finds the sci-fi series evolving from a side-scrolling game to a first-person shooter. The evil Space Pirates are up to their old tricks again, this time on a remote planet called Tallon IV, so Samus must embark on another adventure through uncharted territory. While the perspective has changed from 2D to 3D, Metroid Prime still features many of the same elements found in the previous three games on the NES and Super NES.

Samus can outfit her space suit with new weapon upgrades found along the journey, including old favorites such as the Wave Beam and Freeze Beam, allowing her to more effectively battle creatures as well as uncover new areas. Gameplay still emphasizes exploration over non-stop action, but there are still confrontations with boss characters spanning multiple screens in height and puzzles to solve using the right combination of equipment.

Samus' visor can also be upgraded in the same manner as her weapons, and players will need to effectively use the visor's thermal, combat, X-ray, and scanning abilities in order to advance through the game. Once activated, the thermal display can be used to isolate weak points on an enemy or detect them hiding under the cover of darkness. Samus can also use her morph ball ability, which automatically switches the perspective behind the hero as she rolls along hallways and tunnels to escape danger or to break through barriers.

The technology offered by the GameCube allowed developer Retro Studios to create a world with detail not present in earlier versions of the series. Each environment offers effects such as billowing gasses, electrical interference, sparks, explosions, and real-time weather designed to make the planet come alive with activity. As a bonus, Metroid Prime supports the GameCube -- Game Boy Advance Cable for connection with Metroid Fusion, allowing players to activate secrets intended to enhance both titles.

  • Favorite Game of All Time

Metroid Prime was a game from my childhood that captivated me the moment the Titile Screen Theme began to play and the feeling of some mysterious space adventures hit my brain. Back then in 2002, I had no idea what this game even WAS. I just remember seeing Samus, the main character, on the cover and thought HE looked cool! (I thought Samus was a guy before, this game taught me otherwise!) This was the very first Metroid game I had ever played, never knowing about the original NES game, the sequel on GameBoy, nor the fan-proclaimed BEST, in the series, Super Metroid. Now, while all three of those are great, Super Metroid specifically, Metroid Prime is the best in the series and the Prime Series as a whole is the best one out there. First off, the soundtrack in this title is bar none the ...

  • One of the best Gamecube games out there

Even 15 or so years later, Metroid Prime is one of the most compelling Nintendo gamecube games and one of the best Nintendo games ever to be released even to this day. The game truely stands the test of time and ages great. It's a game with a large, mysterious world to explore as is most Metroid titles, even the 2D side scrolling ones. The enviornments are georgous and filled with life. It feels as if there is a thriving ecosystem within the boundries of the game, and is teeming with life. Life that wants to kill you, life that is passive. The world responds and this is from a game made back in 2002.

  • Absolutely Amazing

When I was smaller, I found this game incredibly hard, boring, and not that great. Know, I don't know where to begin. For a 2002 game, it is out of this world. The graphics are sublime, and the game play is amazing. The amount of detail put in the games worlds are simply amazing. There is always something to find, or read from the Chozo lore, and the bosses and animals never get old. Incredibly interesting and compelling game. The only other game that has drawn me in like this was Skyrim. All in all, a beautiful game that has drawn me away from my Xbox One, at least for now. I would absolutely buy this game.

  • Metroid Prime arrives on the GameCube

Pros: Awesome graphics, with tons of cool effects. You can see the fog or water droplet on your visor, and more. The sound effects are also well done, even though there is no voice acting. The game plays out as a first person shooter, but if you press the X button on the controller Samus rolls up in a ball and the camera pulls out into a 3rd person perspective. Also, you get the ability to free-roam the world and are able to go back to practically any previous locations at any time. You also acquire new items, weapons and abilities as you progress forward. The enemies are very nicely done, and are diverse. Also, there are many larger than life boss battles. Cons: The controls are uncomfortable. You are forced to WALK and LOOK around using the left analogue stick. This means that you ...

  • Childhood memories

The controls are something ima have to get used like for all oldies. Absolutely great game and addicting. Took me so long to beat this games ending boss, only beat it when I had a school friend come over to see how hard the boss is and was the moment when I finally beat the game. Definitely holds a place in my heart this game
