Excellent cheap solution for mid-range Nikkor zoom for full-frame bodies
I bought this lens as a flexible and light landscape lens, after reading some very positive reviews about its image quality (though not its construction quality). I have been very happy with it -- when used at f8-f11, it produced very sharp images with lovely color rendition at short-middle focal lengths, with only some softness at 80mm. Results at f16 were also very acceptable. Given its widespread availability as a used lens, it was a bargain. I do not intend to use it heavily and have no need for the professional build quality of the comparable range Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED, which would have cost 20x(!!) as much, with only marginally better image quality (using Nikon's own MTF charts), albeit a wider maximum aperture. The widest zoom setting is adequate for most landscapes (on a ... The only drawback is that for manual focus, you either have to turn off autofocus on the camera body or wrestle with the focusing ring, which does not have a direct manual override in autofocus mode (eventually such forcing of manual focus will, without doubt, ruin the focusing motor). Autofocus is accurate and fast most of the time, but in some landscape images that need great depth of field, manual setting of the focus is a must.

Great little lens for the money spent!
This lens can't be beat for the money spent. Great pictures, fast auto focus, perfect lens to keep on your camera for most all occasions. Fairly fast for a lens of this type. Nikon knew what they were doing when they came up with this one. You can still find them for fairly cheap money today. The one I bought was almost like new, not a scratch on it. The seller said I would love this lens and he was right. If you are lucky enough to find one, don't pass it up. Money well spent. Sometimes Nikon can come up with lens that are heavy or overpriced, good at one end of the spectrum and not at the other. This lens is not one of them. Light on your camera, not overly large, and the quality of the photo's at all focal lengths are very good if not excellent. I still use film for most of ... I don't want to have a large lens on all the time, so when I need a longer focal length, I will simply swap lens. Film is picky. You don't want to waste many shots as in digital. I find the Nikon 75-210 D is suitable for my needs. So to any one looking for a good lens for little cash, this is a good choice. They made over a million of these and they shouldn't be that hard to find. Just be sure it's in good shape. Highly recommended by one Nikonian to another.

Good quality lens & picture quality. Feather-weight
I purchased this lens for my 14mp digital camera. I have a variety of lens from different companies and I needed this specific lens for a job. What I liked most about it -- the Nikon name and the clarity of the lens. The pictures came out sharp, with excellent detail level, contrast and colors. It is feather-weight and a good bargain for the price. My dislikes -- the casing is not metal but rather plastic. It just feels really cheap especially with it having the Nikon name. Could be more solid. There also is no aperture ring or distance markings on focus ring and the lens turns as it focuses. great lens for a very reasonable price.
I bought my zoom lens for about $45 used. It is plastic but it is reasonably durable and very, very light for a zoom lens. it is a great walking around lens as it cover the most popular and needed zoom ranges. I specifically bought it for my F4s and it is a perfect match for that camera as It has a built in motor drive. The only downside to this lens is that it is not very fast, but for garden variety outdoor shooting or flash shooting it does a fantastic job. You pay a premium price for faster lenses so this lens is the one to get for the most bang for your buck.I bought my zoom lens for about $45 used. This lens will surprise you!
This is a really good lens. To me it's a nice AF 28mm f/3.3G lens that goes to f/22. At 80mm you get f/5.6 to f/40. Images are almost always in focus and the AF is pretty fast. You need to pickup a 58-to-62mm step-up ring or even 58-67mm to help handle the wide angle if you use a rubber hood like I do. The zoom ring is pretty good too compare to other plastic lenses. Mine doesn't stick. It's an amazing value and surprising how with all the lenses I own this one keeps ending up on my camera. It would get 5 stars if it were a fixed aperture.
