I first encountered this book in my then-local library nearly twenty years ago. I thought that it was very informative, but a bit lacking in illustrations of the various classes - to have had pictures of each class of ship would have resulted in a book many times longer/heavier. As it is as published the illustrations cover the major design interpretations of what a battleship/cruiser ought to look like for the role they were designed for - battleships primarily for slugging it out with others of its weight; battlecruisers for commerce raiding/protection and hunting regular cruisers. The descriptions of the classes is basic dimensions, gun sizes and armour thicknesses (where applicable), along with any high points of the careers.
