Vintage Noritake Collector's Must-Have Guide
I decided to purchase this book because I wanted a guide to antique and vintage Noritake dinnerware that was written by an authority on the subject, that contained pictures to help identify patterns, and provide an historical perspective on the porcelain I love. This book, for the most part, did not disappoint and met by expectations with one notable exception. While Ms. Alden is no doubt an authority on her subject, the book has more recent editions available and it should be remembered that more current information on Noritake dinnerware is out there by the same author. The pictures are lovely and arranged in date order which provides the historical perspective I fancy. However, some of the pictures are in black and white and are not very helpful for ID purposes despite carefully written ... I decided to purchase this book because I wanted a guide to antique and vintage Noritake dinnerware that was written by an authority on the subject, that contained pictures to help identify patterns, and provide an historical perspective on the porcelain I love. This book, for the most part, did not disappoint and met by expectations with one notable exception. While Ms. Alden is no doubt an authority on her subject, the book has more recent editions available and it should be remembered that more current information on Noritake dinnerware is out there by the same author. The pictures are lovely and arranged in date order which provides the historical perspective I fancy. However, some of the pictures are in black and white and are not very helpful for ID purposes despite carefully written descriptions captioning each photograph. I found myself using the book as if it were a catalog from which I could select my next acquisitions; (if only I could simply point and click to make the items mine!) and for "eye candy." As stated previously, there are updated editions of this book but I do think this one is worth buying if it is found at a good price.

A well organized overview of Noritake dinnerware patterns
I purchased this book to learn more about the dizzying variety of patterns that Noritake produced over the years. I also have several pieces that I have never been able to identify by using other guides and was looking for help identifying and dating them. This book is specifically focused on dinnerware patterns and was informative and fun browsing. Other excellent guides are devoted to the decorative pieces produced by Noritake such as vases, dresser sets and the like. I'm happy with this book and it deserves a place on the shelf of any experienced or novice collector.I purchased this book to learn more about the dizzying variety of patterns that Noritake produced over the years. I also have several pieces that I have never been able to identify by using other guides and was looking for help identifying and dating them. This book is specifically focused on dinnerware patterns and was informative and fun browsing. Other excellent guides are devoted to the decorative pieces produced by Noritake such as vases, dresser sets and the like. Good Book for Noritake China Collectors
This book is great for those who collect or study Noritake china dinner ware. It isn't as good for those who collect Nippon era china at its high art. Thought, of course, most Nippon was produced by Noritake's parent companies. The book contains page after page of photos of Noritake china patterns. These are mostly dinner plates, but there are pictures of saucers, cups, and a few other pieces. There is also a section on Noritake stamps.This book is great for those who collect or study Noritake china dinner ware. It isn't as good for those who collect Nippon era china at its high art. Thought, of course, most Nippon was produced by Noritake's parent companies. The book contains page after page of photos of Noritake china patterns. These are mostly dinner plates, but there are pictures of saucers, cups, and a few other pieces. There is also a section on Noritake stamps.

If you're looking to identify/collect early Noritake china, this is IT!
I really love this book. I was able to quickly identify several patterns of Noritake china - both sets and lone serving pieces - that I inherited from my grandparents. I also learned when the pieces were made, based on the backstamps, and can now tell if they are old enough to have belonged to my great grandparents. The book is well-organized, and full of colored pictures. I have another book on Noritake (Noritake Dinnerware by Brewer), which I purchased at the same time, and I don't like it nearly as much as I like this book.I really love this book. I was able to quickly identify several patterns of Noritake china - both sets and lone serving pieces - that I inherited from my grandparents. Within this book there are descriptive pattern details given as well as nice photos. Pictures are three to four a page, being large enough to clearly see detail. This is a excellent book for Schedule A through G Noritake identification. Certainly a must have book for the serious Noritake collector.High marks here!
