Lord Nobunaga, the shogun who would be remembered by history as one of the most powerful and fiercest of warlords in Japan, has fallen in battle after taking an arrow through the throat. He would not, however, remain dead for very long. Demons have come to bring the wicked lord back to life, and it is up to a young ronin named Samanosuke Akechi to face them -- all while saving a separated lover for whom his heart still burns. Samanosuke won't be able to take on the sickening horde by himself. An ancient supernatural clan called the Ogres has been suppressed long enough by the demons, so they have enlisted the master-less samurai to help, giving him a powerful gauntlet that will allow him to steal the souls from fallen enemies. Samanosuke can use the raw ethereal power from these captured souls to strengthen his weapon thanks to the elemental orbs which fuel the gauntlet's power. It will be a long and difficult journey through the nightmare landscape of Japan, but Samanosuke is the only hope against the demons that have plagued mankind far too long. So begins Onimusha: Warlords, Capcom's second game on the PlayStation 2. As with titles in the company's Resident Evil series, Onimusha features polygonal characters placed over pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera perspectives. The locations that Samanosuke will travel through include forts and castles, designed to match the setting of feudal Japan, as well as caves, forests, and even the demons' lair itself. The controls are also similar to those of the Resident Evil series, although there have been some additions to meet the game's more action-oriented needs. There is a strafe button included that will allow Samanosuke to move forward, backwards, and to the sides without having to turn around, and a guard button allows the character to block weaker attacks with his katana. Unlike most titles in the genre, Onimusha features fast-paced swordplay and a large number of enemies to confront. Players will need to fight these enemies, however, instead of avoiding them because they'll need their souls to power-up the gauntlet. Onimusha allows characters to exchange the power given by the souls for more powers in Samanosuke's sword, which takes on attributes of whichever elemental orb he currently has equipped in the gauntlet. In addition, players must power-up the orbs so they can break the various elemental seals scattered around the game world. Other role-playing aspects of the game include powerful magical attacks and upgrades to both Samanosuke's arsenal and his armor. There are also puzzles that must be overcome to progress through the game. Onimusha is a strictly single-player experience, and there is only one character to choose from in the beginning. Some players, especially parents, will want to pay attention to the "Mature" rating for Onimusha, as it contains explicit scenes of violence and gore.

Onimusha: Warlords Review
When you start a new game, you will be treated to what is without a doubt the best videogame intro since Xenogears. It shows a battle scene with tons of action, violence and gore. And its ending is the most surprising of any game out there as well, the intro CG of Onimusha is just a crumb of what the game has to offer. Onimusha got a pretty good story, one that we've seen before, just not as gruesome. The princess has been kidnapped, and like any other game when it comes down to a situation like this, you Samanosuke Akechi (the "U" is silent in the first name), must go out and rescue her. Princess Yuki is not only part of Japan's royalty, she is also Samanosuke's cousin, making him a member of the Japanese Royal Family as well. Accompanying him [Samanosuke] will be ... Accompanying him [Samanosuke] will be Kaede, a female ninja who was first hired to kill Samanosuke, but in the end learned to trust him and became his sidekick. Even though Samanosuke is the game's main protagonist, Kaede will also come into play at times, when it is necessary for her to do so. Samanosuke is a swordsman, and throughout the game you will be granted three different weapon orbs (lighting, fire, and wind), each with their special effects such as opening doors and giving the corresponding weapon an extra power. Kaede doesn't have orbs, but instead uses knives such as a flaming knife and shorter dagger like knives called 'Kunai', used for throwing. the end, you probably don't care what I would've said to you regarding a purchase of Onimusha. Chances are that this game will break the 1 million sales barrier here in the states, and eventually in Japan, and you know what? It definitely should. I urge gamers out there to pick up Onimusha as soon as it arrives in stores, I strongly advise you to pre-order the game NOW! If the Japanese version is any indication of how the US copy will do, then we should prepare ourselves for one strong selling title. I should also mention the amount of money that Capcom will pour into Onimusha's marketing campaign which will include, TV commercials, print ads, online ads, and even radio marketing. With Onimusha's breathtaking visuals and impressive gameplay, I assure gamers of all kind will enjoy this classic title, especially Resident Evil fans! And so the wait for Onimusha ends and the wait for Devil May Cry begins... now!

This is another quality game from Capcom. You play as Samanosuke, a young Japanese warrior who is out to rescue Princess Yuki. The game isn't that long and will probably be finished in 4 1/2 to 7 hours. But it is filled with almost non stop action. The combat system isn't the deepest in terms of moves, but is still very fun to slice up demons. There are also some puzzles scattered out, which aren't to difficult, except for a mosiac puzzle that took me a little bit. Every once in awhile a cutscene will flesh out the story a little more. I don't know how my skills stack up as a gamer, but towards the end in the Demon Realm, I had some difficulties to say the least. To me, it was very hard, and I needed every bit of my skill. Sometimes I felt it was being a tad ... This is another quality game from Capcom. You play as Samanosuke, a young Japanese warrior who is out to rescue Princess Yuki. If you're a fan of Capcom or action games, you can't go wrong.

As with most XBox ports it has additional features, including an entirely new gameplay feature (green souls). And what gamer doesn't like bonus features? Now, to the game itself: Onimusha is a samurai action/adventure RPG featuring a fairly silent protagonist who is on a quest to save a beautiful, kind-hearted princess from the clutches of the demon armies and their zombie hordes. Well, pretty standard stuff here, certainly nothing too original. Where the game shines is in it's smooth, flashy swordplay (which is facinating to watch once you master it). All the weapons in the game, which include 3 magical swords, a bow and a gun, perform with a grace that most games don't ... It's truely fun, and certainly worth adding Onimusha to your collection, just for the grace of the combat. However, numerous gameplay problems, including a very short storyline (even with two alternating characters to use) that will only a couple hours to beat and a weak plot prevent this game from being anything but an amusing distraction- a delicious morsel in between courses at a banquet. It should be noted that you do not have to be familiar with this game to play any of the other games in the serious, all of which use basically the same gameplay. This game is stand-alone in it's story, with the next two games (Samurai's Destiny and Demon Seige) starring the same protagonist and the fourth game (Dawn of Dreams) being yet another stand-alone game. However, the game does have a few moments that are certainly amusing, such as one scene that shows even a mighty samurai needs help. In this scene (which can be somewhat annoying on the gameplay end of things) you must use the other, female, character to save the main character from a pretty horrible end. In truth, Onimusha comes out as being nothing more than an excellent demo- you get all the gameplay, but very little of the story or the length of an actual game.

TWO BONGS UP!!!
