Stephen King CAN acctually write a bad novel.
I had just finished reading another Stephen King novel for probably the tenth or eleventh time ("Misery") when someone suggested the very different adventure/survival book of "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon". I will tell you now, if you think that Steven King cannot write a bad book then you are very wrong. You may even want to stop here as I will stress this point greatly! When I started this particular piece, it started as most of Steven King's books do. Very ordinary American family dealing with their own problems on a daily basis. As you progress through each chapter, it really starts to stay that way, ordinary. I really felt bored when I was reading this. There were little cute quips, etc. but there just was nothing there. The whole story if you don't know is about a young girl who ... She strays away to go to the bathroom amongst mother nature but her family is too busy fighting to notice. She then gets all turned around and can't find her way out. This is a common place idea followed by common place plot. Granted, it is still Steven King and the writing, in regards to word choice and overall lyrical sense, is great. I always have loved what he can do with a sentence. ---*Spoilers Ahead*--- As the story progresses there is something missing, that tingly sense on the back of your neck, that urge to keep reading just one more page, that "IT" factor that makes Steven King's other works so great. The only suspense comes from "something" that follows the main character along as she tries to get out of the woods. Ther are little plot twists, like when she gets frustrated and turns north when she is just one mile from a town due west, but the biggest "twist" is that this big mean creature that has been supposedly playing mind games with her, was a bear. Oh my goodness! You mean that in the woods in New England in Spring there are bears that walk around killing deer and eating berries! YOUR KIDDING?! Do us both a favor, read this book because you really want to or if you don't have much else to read. Otherwise you will be GREATLY disappointed with it. As is, you probably wont read it twice.

The girl
Very nice Book! Has all the pages nothing ripped out of it… it did have some lines under the words from a pencil but I erased them a some of the pages where folded dog ear style but I fixed that. Overall I recommend buying the book! I love it! it’s been used but that means the book has a history in somebody else’s hand.

Review The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
I had just recently finished reading the well-written and heart-wrenching story Atonement, by Ian McEwan, and was looking for something new to read. I love horror and suspense novels, and it had been a while since I read one. I also am a huge fan of Stephen King, and have recently read Cell and Salem's Lot. So, also being a HUGE Sox fan, I thought I'd try this one out. I am very glad I did. This story is very unlike any other King novel. There is barely any gore -the horror is more in what you don't see, and the hidden danger lurking behind the forest trees. The story is about a young girl who got separated from her family while on a hike in the forest. Wandering, she went even deeper into the forest, the only thing keeping her connected to the outside world being her radio, which she used ... Gordon and listening to those Sox games every night were the only things keeping Trisha sane as she tried to make her way to civilization. The biggest problem was, could she find her way out before whatever was lurking in the forest, watching her and leaving trails of dead mutilated animals, decided it would finally have her. While this book may not live up to the expectations of those expecting gore and the language King usually uses in his novels, if you are a fan of true horror, as I am, you will really enjoy this story of survival.

I, myself, am not the person who wanted this book. It was purchased for a special needs person who loves Stephen King. Although it may be a bit over her capabilities, she was more than excited when it arrived. She has already read a few chapters of this book and enjoys telling me what she has read. Not having read it myself, I love to hear what she has to tell me, especially when it is something that has her interest as well as gives her the opportunity to expand. Very gripping and easy to read
A child is lost, very scared in the dark. She knows something is following her, but what? She has here small hand held radio. She can listen to Tom Gordan as he plays baseball. The anticipation of the girl and the reader can be felt with hair raising on the arms and the quickening of the heart beat. Great book to read.
