You know it's tough to find a solid piece of electronic equipment than can actually hold up to a child's level of play. The GBA comes with a fairly solid frame and the buttons are positioned well for smaller hands. The screen of course is tiny but it's an older system so not much more we could expect from the time of production. I feel these are affordable solution from the DS and PSP. The menus and games are not super fragile so they can take being tossed around. The Color coating is a bit low quality as it scratches easy but it's for kids so I really don't mind. Used GBA SP are going for fairly cheap now so you can get yourself a nice deal for traveling with your little ones. Of course the LCD is the key these are not solid as the case so you will have to be careful that it's not pressed because the screen is a bit fragile. I've taken a few of these apart and it's very easy (with the special screwdriver) so replacing worn buttons isn't a problem. the only problem is if the COLOR goes on the screen that's a bit tougher to fix. It could be relate to the actual graphics card not the screen... Anyhow for the money it's a great toy for you or your little ones.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The GBA SP system is an excellent handheld system. It plays both Gameboy color and GB Advance games. I still have my SP even after getting a DS and on occasion will still bust out my SP to kick it oldschool with a GB Color game. If your looking for a system for a child that tends to break things, right here is your system. Nintendo still releases new games on the SP. In fact, many of the games that are released for the DS have a GBA version as well, not all though. The SP has a rather extensive library of games all at a reasonable price (something that can't be said for the competition...) that children of ALL ages can enjoy and add to that the fact that you can buy GB Color games for this bad boy and you've just doubled the gaming library. Nintendo doesn't seem to be dropping the SP any time soon, new games keep on coming. This is a good investment for those who don't want to shell out over a $100 bucks for a DS. Though I'd recommend the DS, the SP is still alive and kicking!Vollständige Rezension lesen
The GB Advance is durably built, has excellent battery life and a great selection of games and accessories. Please note that in 2003 Nintendo began producing the Advance with a brighter screen. I bought the original without the brighter screen and it is just fine. However, the brighter screen version is a better bet and my only regret is that I did not purchase that model. My 5 and 4 year olds actually are more comfortable with it than the new DS(to my delight). I recommend it for younger gamers but can hnestly say I enjoy it every bit as much as my kids do.
This is a learning experience for me. Occassionally I go to the box deer stand with my husband and needless to say I was bored to death. He has a gameboy that I gave him several years ago when he had back surgery and he would play Tetris (sp)to pass the time. I decided to get one for myself and unfortunately you cannot buy these in the store, only something really fancy that you can get on the internet with and I don't know what else. So I checked e-bay and here they are. I really like this one because it folds up and you can easily slip it in a pocket. Has color, a good screen that even someone like me with horrible eyesight can easily see and is very easy to use. I just have to find games that I will like beside Tetris. One thing you need to be aware of is when you buy games be sure to buy ones with instruction books or if you buy a gameboy and games come with it but no books you can buy them elsewhere. Maybe you can figure out how to play without the books but I am 72+ and need the books. I highly recommend this Gameboy. Oh one last thing. I gave one to my Granddaughter 3 or 4 years ago, her older brother was using it and left it in his pants pocket. His other grandmother washed the pants without checking pockets so the gameboy went through the washer and dryer. Needless to say it would not work at first but I put it on the kitchen counter to see what would happen when it really did dry out completely. End of story, after a couple of days it came back to life as good as new and is still working. I don't recommend washing one but I do know of one that was none the worse for the trip in washer and dryer. Gameboy advance can play games made for the older Gameboy so that is a real advantage if you know someone that has that type games. The older GB's cannot play games for GBA or sometimes called Game Boy Advance Special. You can go backwards as far as using games with GBA but with the first or second generation Game Boys you cannot play the newer type games. Well this is far more than you ever wanted to know but if you have a lot of waiting, doctors office, hospital waiting room, deer stand, in the car on a long trip anything where you need to pass the time - this is for you. Also they tell me playing with these games will keep your mind sharp. Must say I'm still waiting for that to happen but then maybe mine is too far gone to be helped. cjwdVollständige Rezension lesen
I bought this because lately I've sort of been wanting to collect some retro games. I had also been planning on buying a Game Boy Advance since I no longer had a way to play my GBA games since I traded in my old DS towards a 3DS. I had owned a Game Boy Advance before, but not the SP. I can safely say that I've probably been a bit spoiled by the newer systems lit screens and even with the side-lit screens of the SP, it just doesn't compare with modern handhelds. Definitely go for the brighter screen model if you can. That being said, even with the screen being a little dim it still gets the job done and the system overall is phenomenal. All the buttons just feel so tight and accurate. This system might just have the most satisfying feeling d-pad I've ever used. Of course the most important part to ensure a gaming system has value is it's library of software, and that just happens to be the area in which the Game Boy Advance shines the brightest. The Game Boy Advance systems are backwards compatible to work with ALL Game Boy games (with the exception of the Game Boy Advance Micro). With as many great games that are available throughout the Game Boy's lineage, the affordability of the games and the hardware, and the build quality of the system, the Game Boy Advance is an absolutely insanely good value. If you're looking to start collecting retro games, there's not much of a better starting point than a Game Boy Advance SP.Vollständige Rezension lesen
