Product Information

Red Steel is a first-person shooter that combines gunfights and swordplay with the Wii's unique motion-sensing controls. After the Yakuza abducts an unnamed American's Japanese fianc, he journeys into the heart of Japan's underworld to confront a crime syndicate boss and his well-armed minions. Players begin the game equipped with a pistol and a sword, both of which showcase the platform's unusual control scheme. Holding the Wii Remote like a firearm, players point the controller at the television screen and squeeze the trigger-like B button to shoot. More precise shots are accomplished by extending one's arm to zoom-in on targets, as players freely look around their environment, duck, or jump using the analog-based Nunchuk attachment.

Those who dispose of enemies with efficiency and precision are rewarded with "focus," a technique represented by a gauge, which lets players freeze time and isolate multiple targets before taking them all out in one John Woo-inspired finishing move. The game's Tokyo-based locales will take players through gardens, corporate offices, dojos, restaurants, gaming parlors, and crowded streets, each offering destructible elements such as aquariums, pachinko machines, cars, neon lights, and more. The goal in each setting is to work your way past armed thugs and onto boss duels involving swords rather than guns. Swordfights are approached in a slightly different manner, as attacks require specific, pre-defined motions instead of the sword responding to your real-time movements. Red Steel also includes support for up to four players in a variety of competitive game modes.

  • Controls are fine, Game is much better than the reviews

Red Steel is not the best game I've ever played, but you can only have one best right? This game is Great! Not Excellent, but GREAT! For all you reviews below me, please listen to the following. Wii Menu Click Options in the lower Left Corner Then go into Wii Sensor Bar settings and adjust how far your Wii-Motes are from the screen. ***ALL YOU HAVE TO DO PEOPLE IS SETUP YOUR WII*** Nintendo can customise the Wii to someones setting of 10 feet away and another persons prefrence of having the wii-mote 4" from the screen. You go in and press plus/minus untill you have two solid dots and guess what? Your Wii will have so much more control it's just unbelievable. The Game: (Score out of Ten) Gameplay: 7.0 I think they made the advanced mode a bit tough Graphics: 6.0 Could have done a ...

  • super funnn

the controls are many and a little hard to learn, but once you start to play the action gets going right away and they give you an in depth tutorial about what to do in every situation. the splitscreen local multiplayer is fun and awesome, but some levels are so huge that when you play with just two people it takes you forever to find one another :/ i haven't played online, i dont recall seeing the game have that option, but im sure that would be mega sweet too... all in all if you are looking for a game that you can play with your friend or do the missions by yourself, this is a pretty good title for the wii... and its not hella expensive anymore... so a good deal. :] also, it was the first game title i purchased for my wii [other than wiisports and wiiplay... the necesseties. :D] hope ...

  • Clunky action, but worth checking out

Red Steel is an interesting and engaging game, but falls short of its true potential. The sword action is unique for a first-person shooter, but don't expect a full range of motion. The moves are fairly limited though combining specific moves with your blade results in some special moves and extra points. The game is particularly unique for its attention to rewarding you for not killing people. After a sword fight, you have the option of either striking a finishing blow to your defeated opponent or graciously putting your sword away. During the gunfights, you can find the boss in area, wave your controller over them repeatedly, and attempt to convince them to put their guns down. The accumulation of these respect points is particularly unique and unlike anything I've seen in other ...

  • Ridiculous Steel

I purchased this product to get a feel for the way the Wii can do a first person shooter, and I wanted something different than the typical WWII environment. My initial impression of the game, from its frequent loading screens, poorly animated cinematics, and lack of compelling story, was not favorable. It was incredibly difficult for me to become familiar with the controls, and I found it very difficult to determine where enemies were when I was being blasted from a distance. I had heard it would take 30 minutes to an hour to get a hang of the controls, but it took me between 3 to 5 hours to get used to them. After putting in my 3-5 hours of intense aggravation and enduring the afore-mentioned problems with the game (as well as some other problems, such as what I consider terrible ...

  • equal with Call of Duty 3 and Far Cry Vengeance

equal with Call of Duty 3 and Far Cry Vengeance. i own the previously mentioned games, but i tried this one the other day for a couple hours. i gotta say, this is a good one. im waiting to get another $50 or so. as soon as i do, im picking this one up too. pretty decent graphics, more smooth and COD or Far Cry. the controls are gonna seem weird for just about anybody at first. but if you give it a chance and little patience all these wii games can be a totally cool time. ive had more fun with the wii than any previously owned system (Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, PS1, PS2, GC). if you like shooters at all, and have any amount of patience pick this one up, along with COD3 and Far Cry Vengeance. they're all worth the $50 retail in my opinion, plus you can get 'em for even less ...
