Performed, once again, with dignity and style by David Suchet as Hercule Poirot. He is just so good as Hercule Poirot. The three movie-length presentations in this set are done with such elegance, and attention to detail in regards to costumes, cars and settings, that you cannot find fault with any of that. However, the usually wonderful scripts were changed somewhat from the original writing by Christie and from earlier-filmed versions. I did not particularly like the changes for Appointment with Death nor Murder on the Orient Express. Those movies were filmed in 1988 with Peter Ustinov (Appointment with Death) and in 1974 with Albert Finney (Murder on the Orient Express) and had, in my opinion, far superior scripts than does the versions in this set. That is not to say that these versions are bad at all. But, if you can, compare the 1974 and 1988 scripts to the ones in this set. I think you'll find that the earlier scripts were just simply better. Updating is not always an improvement. I also enjoyed the cast of characters more in the '74 version of Murder on the Orient Express than I did this one. But, the casts in all 3 of these movies are good. Poirot fans (and others) will still like this set. It is definitely worth buying and enjoying.Vollständige Rezension lesen

quality repro and nice selection of Poirot adventures. David Suchet has made this character role his own for all time.

These four new episode in the Poirot series are exceptional. At least two of the stories, the Clocks and Murder on the Orient Express are some of Christie's best and the movie do them perfect justice. Suchet's performance as always is exceptional. I have not admired all the episodes in the series- some were poorly done as fur as the direction goes (cards on the table for example) but these episodes are true to the books with just a few twist that make the movie more dramatic. The series includes, The clocks, Halloween Party, Three act tragedy and Murder on the orient express. Very highly recommended for the Poirot fan or for anyone who want to start getting into this series.
My husband has been an Agatha Christie fan for decades, so when the videos of Poirot began to come out, I began to get them for him. He now has most of the videos in the Poirot series. We love how David Suchet portrays the venurable Poirot; and the supporting cast, scipt writing, directing and locations used in filming are all superb! There's really not much to say that's negative except that whenever an American character shows up in the story, there's a bit of a language issue. Otherwise, for mystery lovers, this is the series for you.
If you want to see apex of David Suchet's acting, or of Agatha Christie's writing, then you have to purchase this series and watch "The Orient Express". The topic of the movie and the story ("The Calais Express" or "The Calais Coach") is very close to Chrisite's heart - the theme reverberates in the "Hallow'een Party". - "The Orient Express" is not just a murder mystery, but a philosophical look at the issue of evil and justice. It makes you THINK. After this performance, David Suchet will always be the one and only true Hercule Poirot - no one will match him, just like Joan Hickson will always be the best Mrs.Marple.
