I buy many Bible based movies. My gold standard thus far are the Visual Bible productions, but there are only three, and I have some criticisms on "The Gospel of Matthew", but won't go into them in this review. I liked this movie, maybe even a great deal. Patrick Dempsey gives a very sensitive portrayal of the "weeping prophet", and there's little doubt why he spent a great deal of his time weeping over Judah and Jerusalem. Kudos to Dempsey for touching approach to this beloved prophet of God. What I didn't like about it was the fictitious insertion of the Judith character (though she does have a drop-dead gorgeous smile). Why add such a nonsense embellishment to the rich story of Jeremiah? Their star crossed romance seems to be used as filler for replacing much of Jeremiah's life as it is portrayed in scripture. That would have been a far superior story. In spite of that complaint, I've watched it a few times, and will watch it again. There's nothing in the movie that borders on heresy (as "Jesus" starring Jeremy Sisto), so it's great entertainment, and you're at least left knowing why Jeremiah was so unpopular with King Zedekiah, and the reason for Jerusalem's destruction under Nebuchadnezzar. Klaus Maria Brandauer's Nebuchadnezzar makes a brief, but wonderful appearance, even though it's not thoroughly accurate. He does distill the arrogance and conquering personality effectively. Stuart Bunce makes a wonderful and sympathetic friend and scribe for Jeremiah in his role as Baruch. All the acting in this film is first class, even down to the minor players. It could have been a truly great film had they extended it to three hours, incorporating more of Jeremiah's life from the Bible. Maybe I'm too picky, but if you're making a Bible movie, why not use the original Bible account? I guess I love Bible movies in the same sense as I love my children: I love them because, and I love them in spite of. I don't think many will be disappointed by this film. I don't regret buying it at all!Vollständige Rezension lesen
A great story well presented in spite of a little Hollywood license with a love interest which is not in the biblical account

I found the characters to be intrigued and wonderful. This is a great presentation that is fairly straightforward and close to the biblical sense. I really enjoyed the actors portrayal of the biblical characters.

The story is a Bible movie that explains a lot about the events in the past. The actors were great.
