Product Information

The first role-playing game based in the Star Wars universe finds players controlling a three-party team from a third-person perspective. The setting takes place 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire, where the Jedi and Sith number in the thousands and are embroiled in a war that could upset the balance of the Force. Players choose a male or female human character to begin the game, with three classes initially available: scoundrel, scout, and soldier. During the adventure players will meet with a wide assortment of races, including humans, droids, Wookiees, and Twil'leks, with nine additional characters able to join their party. The journey will span seven worlds as players ultimately decide on a path of good or evil, from the confines of the Jedi Academy on Dantooine to the forests of Kashyyyk, the Sith realm of Korriban, and the desert planet of Tatooine. Developer BioWare moves away from the interface used in its Baldur's Gate series to create a new turn-based combat system using the 3D engine. Players will also be able to ride a swoop bike to earn cash rewards, fend off enemy ships from behind a gun turret, and participate in other events, such as an original card game loosely based on blackjack, that offer a diversion from the main storyline. As players grow in ability during the course of adventuring, whether it's by completing quests or through the rigors of combat, they can return to their main vessel, the Ebon Hawk, to train, build custom weapons, or to swap members in and out of their party. The Ebon Hawk also serves as the primary means of transport between worlds. Knights of the Old Republic is exclusive to the Xbox console at the time of its release, with a PC version of the game available in November 2003. Both games feature interfaces and settings unique to the platform on which they appear. Those with an Xbox Live connection will also be able to download bonus content, including additional worlds, characters, and quests.

Given the user's feedback score, I had my reservations but this was a great price. Overall, I would not order from this seller again despite my positive feedback. My order is the one pictured and in working order. The game was deceptively pictured, however I could identify the defect that was not noted in the description. The seller also does not follow the shipping packaging standard they lay out in previous feedback responses. Game was $100+ and came in a thin plastic mailer, not a box.

Great game
I bought an original X-box just to play the game, and then follow up with the rest. This game although older is simply awesome, you make decisions that point the game in different directions and I spend hours at a time playing. The graphics are great even when put up against todays games. If you have not played this and are a Star Wars fan you need to pick this up and try it, you won't be disappointed trust me.I bought an original X-box just to play the game, and then follow up with the rest. That's pretty much what you'll be asking yourself throughout the game, because for some reason Bioware saw fit to reuse the same character models over and over again...everywhere. Normally this isn't the end of the world, but I noticed that paired with the cloned models, the majority of the dialogue(especially alien) was exactly the same and didn't fit with what was actually being said. You know something is wrong when your Wookie counterpart Zaalbar grunts and groans for for nearly a minute just to say three words. You'll find yourself constantly skipping through mountains of dialogue because you've heard it all a thousand times before, they really needed to individualize these characters some more. Don't believe me, talk to a few ... Don't believe me, talk to a few Twi'Lek's...you'll become a speed reader real fast. Another thing which kinda chapped my ass was the swoop bike races. I found it more frustrating than fun seeing as how the developers left you with little margin for error (especially in the 2nd and 3rd tier/rounds). You also can't upgrade your swoop bike, even though that's what most of the other NPC do. But to be honest, even if you could upgrade your bike, the real question is: Would you even want to? I also found the Ebon Hawk gun turret mini-game equally boring and useless. There just wasn't any point to it other than to break things up between space travel, six fighters, awkward controls and nothing to it. My last gripe and a rather minor one was the actual usage of your party members. Because lets face it, there were those in your party that were pretty much useless and only needed once to further the story (T3-M4 anyone?). I was disappointed at how your party members automatically leveled up even if you stopped using them altogether. But if you did manage to give one of your freeloadin Ebon Hawk stowaways another try to spice things up, fear not, they'll level up with everyone else regardless of how often you use them. I guess they didn't want any one character to get left behind if you really needed them to further the story later. Logical in theory, but it felt forced in the RPG scheme of things. Also, when you top off your characters light or dark side alignment, that's it, you can't be any more good or evil than you already are. So for example if your playing completely on the light side and peek that force meter all the way up, you don't get any incentives or rewards for doing more good, why bother. I found myself doing bad things from time-to-time just to have a change of pace, besides theres plenty of opportunities to do more good and make it up. And I was also a bit peeved making it thru the whole game only using light and universal powers, not knowing that you could use Dark powers without losing light points. Sure it costs more force points, but it would have been worth it. The story was halfway decent. I liked all of the hidden character back stories and development. I actually felt compelled to talk to each and every member of my party just to get a little more insight to their troubled past (Although most Magazine reviewers put too much hype on HK-57, he wasn't that funny). The Gameplay was very solid, I appreciated the pause in time when ever you'd encounter an enemy so-as you can properly prepare for battle. I also liked the various weapons and upgrades you can aquire, although you'll find that you won't use half of them. The Graphics looked okay, but considering it was on the XBOX I expected more.

Still in my Top Three!
This game came randomly w/ my 1st XBOX console which I'd bought solely to play "Starsky & Hutch", and it STILL ranks in my top three games coming in just behind "Stranger's Wrath-the XBOX exclusive". It is fun, it's not complicated-although if you don't have a strategy guide it can be tedious-but this is my 5th copy of the game, and when this one wears out...#6!

In a huge Star Wars world you must navigate and fight either for the light or dark side of the force to become a powerful jedi or evil sith. This game is huge, seriously. The only real problem is that you never ever even get to fight once. You have to tell your character what to do and they do it. You can't run up to someone and slash them with a lightsaber or any of that fun stuff. But at least you don't have to hack n' slash like the Jedi Knight series. Star Wars hardcore fans will love this game. RPG fans will love it as well. You can't really go wrong if you are in those two classes. Rent before you buy. Definitely a gem of a game
Great game! I missed out on it the first time around as I had a PS2 but I recently purchased and original xbox and I'm catching up on missed games. Definitely a great purchase.
