In Dark Wizard, the magical land of Cheshire is dominated by the destructive and evil ways of the Dark Wizard Velonese who soon hopes to release the Dark God Arliman from the Jewel of Darkness which has held him captive for centuries. All of Cheshire has been taken over by Velonese except for the kingdom of Quentin, where one of four warlords hopes to claim the land that Velonese's elemental demons have taken over in recent years. The motives of these warlords include nobility (Prince Armer and Robin, Cheshire's finest warrior), personal gain (Amon the vampire) and revenge against Velonese (Krystal the enchantress). <br><br>Once a player has chosen a warlord, the game can begin. The player is able to summon mystical beasts and purchase fighters, clerics and mages. Since each warlord has different abilities and different motives, each is capable of recruiting different beasts and warriors than other warlords. <br><br>The player moves each warrior in a strategic fashion on the hexagon-based battlefield. When a player confronts an enemy soldier (some have better range than others), the warrior can attack, a counter-attack almost certain to follow. Meanwhile, there are many items that may be purchased or found that can bolster a warrior's effectiveness. After each castle has been regained from the forces of Velonese the player is then taken to a map where the next point of attack must be decided. Once every space on the map has been wrested from Velonese (and this takes quite a while), the player has freed Cheshire and won the game.

A hard-to-find older game that is quickly vanishing from the world.
I have loved this wonderful older RPG game since I got my first disc a few years ago. Simplistic and easy to follow...and it has four different protagonists to choose from, with easy to normal player levels. I bought this one on eBay because I couldn't find my old one, and found that this was the second printing from 1994, but it was just as fabulous as my old original 1993 issue. No two games I have played has ever been exactly the same, because I switch characters, find or buy special weapons, or simply work my way through the games by different routes. The graphics are extremely simple, but the maps layouts are well-thought out and full of great detail. I don't enjoy repetitive music, so the options allow me to turn off the music if it gets tiresome. The monsters, characters, and ... The monsters, characters, and leaders are imaginative and fun to play, and as long as I can still find good replacement Sega Genesis control pads, or find broken ones for refurb parts, I am a happy camper! I have worn out a dozen pads (and these are some of the best-built game controller pads made!) playing this game hundreds of times. I keep praying every day that my old Genesis SDX keeps on truckin' for another 20 years! :) Great for kids (no blood, gore, or foul words, and plenty of heroism going around) or for adults (great story lines and loads of secrets to discover).

Amazing!
This was the game that turned me on to strategy rpgs. If you have a Sega CD, like games like Shining Force or Ogre Battle and want a game that will last you about 25-35 hours, this is the one. The game is kind of like Shining Force on steroids. You have much more ability to determine your path than in Shining Force. Other bonuses include the ability to cast magic from great differences and a great soundtrack. It has been years since I played through this one but if any game deserved a sequel, this is it. . .This was the game that turned me on to strategy rpgs. One of the Best RPG Strategy Games of All Time!!!
Dark Wizard has to be considered one of the best RPG strategy games of all time. Everything was done perfectly from the graphics to the gameplay to the amount of items there is in the game, not to mention there are 4 different main characters in the game which makes the replay value go through the roof!!! The only thing missing that would have made it the all time great is a 2 player mode where u can save your army and fight against another human controlled army. Even with this flaw i give it a 5/5 rating, was way ahead of its time and still blows current RPG's out of the water today in my opinion. I will NEVER sell my copy and will play it till im old and gray.Dark Wizard has to be considered one of the best RPG strategy games of all time. One of the best games for sega CD
If you like turn based stragity games and anime than this is a great game. There are several leaders that one can choose from (each with different strengths / weaknesses) the chosen leader leads an army of different races / summoned monsters to fight off evil. Every unit can advance in level and class becomming different and more powerful. Non-monster units can be equiped with different weapons, items and armor. Patience is required. Being a turn based stragity game, the battles take a very long time to complete. So playing the game from start to finish is a major time investment. That being said, the plots are varied from leader to leader so there is replay value.If you like turn based stragity games and anime than this is a great game. Great game
Dark Wizard is one of my favorite games. It is a Strategy game with Role Playing elements. The story is good, the game play is perfect, the music is great, and there are lots of secrets to uncover while you play through the 4 included stories. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves a good turn based strategy title, especially those who enjoy fantasy based stories/gameplay. 10/10
