Immerse yourself in a different world
Thanks to a chance encounter on a Boston Commuter bus, I discovered Rita Mae Brown and her unique books. I especially love her foxhunting series and The Tell-Tale Horse is one of that series. This is the fifth book in the series that I've read and they just keep getting better. It is most unusual to read a murder mystery that also teaches you about nature, animals (both wild and domestic), and so many other out-of-the-ordinary things. Ms. Brown gives all the animals in her novels a voice and her own point of view is so fresh and special as it is revealed in her stories, set in the magnificent Blue Ridge Mts of Virginia. I have traveled through this part of the country and her stories make me feel like I know the area more than a casual visitor could. There are a lot of characters in ... There are a lot of characters in her books, but she manages to keep you clear on who they are (if you get confused, there is a Cast of Characters section to refer to). The diversity of characters makes the book all the more unique as well. And one can't help but fall in love with "Sister" Jane Arnold, the master of the foxhunt club she belongs to. This book and all of the foxhunting series afford an enjoyable and joyous read. I now find myself looking for the allusive fox whenever I am traveling in mountainous areas in the southeast and recently did happen to meet up with a beautiful red while in Northeast Georgia. A curious fellow he was, too, since he posed on the side of the road and studied us as we fumbled with the camera to get a snapshot of him (or her) from our car. What lovely creatures they are! I hope Rita Mae Brown never tires of writing books like this - I know I'll never tire of reading them!

Sister rides again!
Love this series by Rita Mae Brown especially as it takes place in my home state of Virginia!

The Tell-tale Horse by Rita Mae Brown (2007)
As ever Rita Mae Brown does not disappoint with her new book The Tell-tale Horse. Her discription of charaters and place is wonderful. You almost feel like you are riding along with "Sister" on her fox hunts. Ms Brown weaves a story line that can keep you guessing until the last chapter. I really enjoy Rita Mae Brown's books and like to keep up with her on going stories about "Sister". A good book and a GREAT read.As ever Rita Mae Brown does not disappoint with her new book The Tell-tale Horse. Her discription of charaters and place is wonderful. One of my favorite authors and I was not disappointed, a fun read for a winter's day I look forward to more books in the series. These are enjoyable reads for horse folk and animal lovers
