Been in the mines and mint of Potosi Bolivia
I was looking for some history about the cobs because I have been in the 400 year old mines of Potosi Bolivia and the exceptional Mint/Museum down below in the City. It has helped me better understand the history of the several specimens that I got in Potosi and the evolution of the Spanish cobs before the era of the "milled" reales; the latter seen and reported on the Lewis & Clark Expedition. john w. fisher, authority on the Euro-American material culture of the Lewis & Clark ExpeditionI was looking for some history about the cobs because I have been in the 400 year old mines of Potosi Bolivia and the exceptional Mint/Museum down below in the City. Well written and easy to consume
In addition to being a reference manual. This is a GREAT history book. And what coin collector is not an historian? Many kudos on this book. Well organized, wonderful chart of sunken treasure ships, excellent bibliography.

Best available starter info for the Cob collector
A very complete treatment of coins markings, with good photos, in chronological order with excellent info on assayer and a extensive discussion of each mints history. Best possible book for someone just getting into cobs. Well done!

The title speaks for itself
This book is a total wealth of information. All kinds of history, excellent black and white photography, covers a wide range of mints, coin designs, if not all of the known varieties; and a map of known shipwrecks and a brief history of each. It's a good buy and a valuable reference.
