Not Bad but...
First I ordered this lense used from someone in Hawaii and it arrived at my place in about 4 days So that was excellent. Packaged well and secure. Pros: The lense is does a very good job with Depth of Field photographs (where the subject is in the foreground and the background is blurred). So you can get creative with this lense. It's relatively light and easy to use. Auto focus works well (a little noise but not annoying). It's a very good walkabout lense especially if you can get it used. Cons: The only thing I do not like about the lense is if you carry it over your shoulder the lense will drop/extend on it's own. I wish it was less sensitive to gravity. It's not a rugged lense for that reason. Recommendations: If you are a budding amateur/enthusiast photographer this is a very ... Decently-sharp general purpose full-frame lens, with a versatile focal range.
Though this lens was introduced in the days of film SLRs, it works very well with Canon's modern full-frame or crop-sensor DSLRs. I use this one with my Canon EOS 6D. The focal range on this lens is very useful; 28mm is moderately wide, and 135mm is a great focal length on a full-frame camera for portrait work. The versatility of this focal range makes this lens my general purpose walk-about lens; I'll only use another lens if I need something with a longer focal range or a wider aperture. While it is compatible with Canon's crop-sensor cameras, I will say that 28mm isn't very wide. 135mm on a crop-sensor puts the lens into moderate telephoto territory, which can be useful for wildlife photography. If you've got a crop-sensor camera, I would suggest looking at the Canon EF-S 15-85mm ... This lens is not compatible with Canon Extender (teleconverters). It's not weather sealed either. In terms of build quality, the lens mount is metal and the base is sturdy - the focus ring is a little loose, but this may just be my copy. The USM autofocus is fast, near-silent, and accurate. The image stabilization is excellent, allowing hand-held shots in low-light conditions. The front element doesn't rotate whilst zooming or focusing, which is ideal for those who wish to use a circular polarizing filter. The lens seems to be decently sharp at f/5.6, achieving its best at f/8 through the whole zoom range. The lens is not really soft at f/3.5; you'll notice vignetting in the corners at that aperture more than you'll notice any real softness - but the image quality is best between f/5.6 and f/8.

I bought this for brand new Canon 5D Mk III, the accepted wisdom was to get a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 F4 L IS USM. After all it is the lens that comes with the camera kit and [something that I didn't know] it has a constant F/4 aperture throughout the focal length which works with the AF system. I wanted the extra reach that the 135mm lens would give me [and the cheaper price]. 30mm, I grant you, but 30mm is 30mm, but it turns out that the F/4 part is really important for the AF of the 5D Mk III. That aside I don't regret the purchase of the 28-135mm lens. It still fits the AF neatly, and the USM is fast and accurate. The IS cool too. Basic multipurpose low end professional lens
I've had one of these lens for over 6 years and put it on new bodys. I've shoot over 100,000 images with one of these so I call it my point and shoot lens. Macro abilities are predictable and easy to get close in shots. The only time I've had questionable performance with it was shooting NHRA from the starting line. The sonic boom vibrated the motors and the picture was lost. After talking to Canon reps, I learned that what I tried to capture was nearly impossible and I could try with any of their lens at their cost in the professional program. otherwise a great lens I recommend to everyone. Canon 28-135 for video use
I bought this lens for my new Canon 7d, primarily for filming videos. This was all new for me, and I bought the lens after much consideration of reviews and trying it out first in shops. First impressions: the lens is fabulously sharp, the autofocus really swift, silent and accurate, and the lens feels well-made and solid. This is for stills work. For video however, it didn't really work out for me. The zoom that felt so smooth and easy for stills was stiff and heavy for video, so the camera dipped alarmingly when I tried to zoom. This may be a matter of technique and practice, but it was really jerky compared to all my camcorders. The camera is quite hard to hold as a video camera. In video mode it's manual focus, and focusing was really hard with the Canon lens. In fact, I bought a ... I bought this lens for my new Canon 7d, primarily for filming videos.
