Great girl, great music, great CD. Saw her on Pinkpop, Holland. She was so good that I wanted to have a reminder of that concert.
When my friends told me about Kate Nash they describd her as a Lily Allen wannabe and at first listen that's probably what you too would think but after a further listen youall see that funny, has a completely fresh voice and packs a powerful punch. LoL. I heard foundations and it really blew me away. The lyrcs were down to earth and didn't feel tacked on or that they'd be written by anybody else. It's a real shame that it was pipped to the post by the boing and repetitive Umbrella which isn't a patch on Foundations. After hearing the song I typed in her name on youtube and found a video of her performing an acoustic version of 'carolines a victim' (the original title of her debut album). This song is eually as fantastic and the lyrics really put a smile on my face. Hopefully her next single will be released on the same week as Rhianna's 'Shut Up and Drive' so that Kate can prove that the british public can't be bought by repetitive lyrics (shut up and drive, drive, drive, drive x 3). Who knows... maybe next year it will most likely be her who gets 4 brit award nominations, a multi-million selling album and working o one of he biggest producers of the moments albums. I'm pre-ordering my copy ASAP and those who like originality, abit of cheeky language and great backing beats will most likely do the same. I'm sure that there'll be loads of other great songs on this album as Victoria Wood (the Sun's columnist for their 'bizzare' section) spoke of the album as the greatest piece of female singer-songwriter genius she'd ever heard. After hearing a few samples off one of my friend's computer I'm eagerly anticipating this piece of musical gold. Whilst Avril Lavigne and Amy Winehouse have stood out this year as great female artists they were both well established artists and have een around for years. Kate is certainly 2007's brightest female star.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Quirky and a little off the wall, this collection of commercially accessible yet truly indie-feel pianoustic choons is characterised by Nash's street-level lyrics. 'Foundations' of course should've been a number one hit but becomes destined to become part of some distant 'Greatest Number Two's Of The Naughties' collection in about 2020 because of the tedious 'Umbrella'. Kate Nash has something different to offer from her contemparies and the tipping of her cap to The Streets and Jamie T are there for all to see. The most blatant and lazy comparison comes though when you mention a certain Lily Allen. Nash's stuff is edgier, more mature and bitter constructed but the fact that she delivers in a Lilyesque Laaaaaaannndon accent draws immediate comparisons. There are some excellent indie-pop songs within this collection, some lilting, drifty acoustic laments and some damn random drop-ins too. There's room for people like Kate Nash because she brings creativity and a little bravery to the table and as a debut album, this is a polished and impressive display of what she can deliver over the coming years.Vollständige Rezension lesen
