I've been a photographer long enough to remember film. I have always liked Sunpak flash units, owning several, desiginated for my older Minolta film cameras. Because of past experience, I trust the Sunpack name, and had no quality concerns about making the purchase. I shoot available light, if at all possible, and was happy my Nikon digitals came with built in, flash. Handy idea for must shots, in very low light situations. Because, however, I use some pretty fast, and wide lenses(f/2.8) from Sigma and Tonika, the built in flash units just don't cut it. The wider lenses, block part of the flash pattern, from the on board units, causing severe shadowing in the bottom of images.. This caused me a real pain in the neck, a couple months back, and got me shopping for an external unit. The Sunpak puts my light source up high enough to eliminate this. It's also powerful enough to diffuse and bounce with, if inside, eliminating that nasty direct flash effect. The PF30X is compact enough to fit a camera bag side pocket--along with its factory diffuser. Simple to use and reasonably priced, it's a good piece of equipment to have on hand. Kind of a must for me. I'm happy. The price was reasonable, It fits the camera bag side pocket, an is at hand for those must use situations. It eliminates my problems--and because past experience with Sunpak, I'm confident, it'll be around for years.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I purchased the Sunpak as a less expensive alternative to the Canon Speedlite because I am an amateur phographer and this will not get that much use.I like this light because it only requires 2 AA batteries, and the flash strength is fully adjustable, and works as it was meant to. I don't like the battery compartment door as it is flimsy and the small tabs holding it closed will probably break at some point with frequent battery changes. The recovery time seems pretty good with the initial startup taking a little longer than I expected. All in all this is a good product for someone who wants to experiment occasionally with different light options.
It is a little bulky and the battery cover is not the best design. But overall it is a good flash for the price. I would recommend it for Nikon users who do not want to pay for an expensive Nikon speedlite.

This Sunpak PF30X for my Nikon D70 camera is excellent. It works perfectly and is nicely balanced on the camera, Design of the flashgun is good and is well made although a metal hot shoe connection would have been preferred. Unfortunately most flash guns are clumsy, Sunpak have got this one just about right.
A small but excellent flash unit that is dedicated, TTL and autofocus assist. Well worth the price. The battery compartment door is flimsy and is prone to open with the force of the batteries pressing against it. The closing tabs are fragile and with frequent opening and shutting could wear out prematurely. Overall, a good unit if you do not want to use the built-in flash unit.
