I have both the Karma and the Ipod Photo. It was a much cheaper alternative to the Ipod.Compared to flashplayers, they both have cumbersome software to get the songs on the player. With a flashplayer, you just drag and drop, without waiting for it to sync, compress, or convert formats. What I love about the Karma is the fact that you can toggle crossfade easily from the player as opposed to having to use Itunes and then not having it crossfade at all. Conversely I have a friend that listens to audio books that wishes to turn the cross fade off but can't. Cross fade is a nice feature that lets the player start one sng while fading out another. It gives the music a rdio station, club or party feel, as opposed to a pause between songs. Sometimes there is a pause between tracks that takes away from the artists intent. When You have over 100 artists never mind tracks, the Ipod you have to use the scroll wheel to go down to an artist like "Whitney Houston" or "Xzbit," it could take a while before the speed sensor kicks in and sppeeds up the process. The Karma lets you select playlists, artist, and tracks, etc by letter. Which is good for 20 gigs, to have a more organized way to select what you are looking for. The only downside to the Karma is the fact that you need a special drivers and software (don't you always? except for flash players)and can't use it as a mass storage device for files. It is hard to find cases, special speakers, cool skins, and specially designed accesories. But of course I had to get an Ipod (Graduation gift) because they just have too many accessories and has become the new standard.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I like the Rio Karma simply because it does give you more controls over the sound quality as compared to other mp3 players - for the audiophile - excellent choice. However one thing I might be regretting is that I have to change the battery, which does requires soldering of some wires. for the girls, please get some guy's expertise on this because its not for the faint hearted and read the many online blogs and reviews on how to do it... but once you get the hang of it you'll understand the Rio Karma internally better. Make sure you don't remove the grey scrolling tab as its very very hard to put it back. The battery can be obtained through ebay for under £8. a down point for me is that, till now I'm unable to get it working like a normal harddisk so that I can add other files besides music... so if anyone has a solution i would certainly like to know... I have tried Rio Taxi..and still it doesn't work.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This was my second Rio Karma MP3 players I brought from e-bay and I'm very satisfied. I like RIO because is easy to use and is small enough to fit my pocket shirt when I ride the bus home. The delivery and condition of the MP3 player was satisfactory. The first Rio Karma player I brought was also great until I dropped in the parking lot and soon afterwards stopped working. I did my research on other MP3 players and felt that Rio Karma once again won for it's features, weight and size. So now I treated like a jewel so it will last me a lot longer than last time.
The Ipod may have overtaken the Karma in terms of capacity (the Karma had 20gb three years ago!) but not in terms of features and sound. If you're handy with a screwdriver you can always fit a bigger HD, they're not hard to find on the Internet and not too expensive either. I've had the occasional "lockup" on mine, once it got stuck powered "on" in the cradle and I had to disconnect the battery, but it was no big deal (easy to take apart & put back together). In terms of features the software that comes onboard is very flexible in terms of playlists, and "random" play selections, fancy listening to the 80s? No problem, just select it. Thumb navigation is really easy with the scrolling wheel which also serves as a button. I use my karma when I go out with earbuds, at home with "big" headphones. It has no trouble powering my Sennheiser HD555s to an uncomfortable volume. I also use it on it's base (line out) as my "hifi". It plays lossless audio "Flac" and will also play "Ogg" up to it's maximum bitrate 500kbps. Overall I think it's a solid well-made music station.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I have a Karma (that I bought) and an iPod Video (that was given to me) and I gotta tell you that after all these years the Karma is still a much more advanced product. I think that Rio nailed it with this product years ahead of Apple. Check these features out: - Docking station has RCA jacks to hook up to the home stereo out of the box! Why doesn't the iPod come with a Dock? - Docking station has a STANDARD mini-USB connector to hook up to the PC. - You don't need the docking station to hook up to a PC. Karma uses a standard mini-USB connector! - Ethernet capable through the dock. Just plug the Ethernet cable into the bakc of the dock and now you can access the Karma through your home LAN or the Internet. wish my iPod did this - Built in Web Browser for access! wish my iPod did this - Much faster to access music through the user interface - Cool equalizer screen playback - Cross Fade capabilities! wish my iPod did this - File exchange using the same mini-USB cable! Really wish my iPod did this - Great user interface - The DJ features is awesome - Mine's been to hell and back and still works after many drops - Great unit as a external hard drive for carrying files and documents - 20 Gig is still quite huge and should hold most libraries Mind you the ipod still rocks because it has so many more accessories, batteries seem to last just a bit little longer, supports color photos and album art and its just so sleek and hip to have.Vollständige Rezension lesen
