buying a pda isn`t the same as buying a smart phone, the main difference between the two is anyone from an idiot to a genius can use a smart phone, an idiot will struggle to do anything with a pda, unless you have a reason that requires a certain feature a pda has you would be better off buying a smart phone, my dell axim x51v for example doesn`t connect to my virginmedia wifi network unless i change it`s setting to work for the pda, i can`t upgrade the pda software to allow new functions or install a new better os on it, it certainly needs it espically now, there is limited support for it and creating new software to work on it will require programming knowledge beyond the basics, and it can`t play most video files due to license requirements which don`t seam to apply to mobile phones.

Lets make a point here first off, this is an old PDA and only die-hard fossils like me still use them...yes I still do. The item has a good screen and touchpad works fine and yes, even the internet connection still works fine. They are ideal for notes and I often use my one in remote areas like sitting down on a train heading to London as per usual there are no seats available and even standing or sitting in corridors you may rub someone up the wrong way with your tablet or large phone using their back to check your emails etc. I also use word for writing and other things. Batteries if you need one because of age, are easy to buy and putting in really easy. Plus as I said the old Dell's go on and on because...yes! they are very well made. So please don't be put off, as I picked up my latest one for £8 off Ebay and £3 p&p and that came with wall charger and case and of course a fully functioning Dell X51 with stylus.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Although the spec doesn't compare well with the latest PDAs - it's slow, chunky and quite heavy on battery usage - the x51v is sturdily built and has a pressure-sensitive screen so in a waterproof bag it will work reliably in damp environments. Had some problems persuading it to connect to the Internet via wi-fi.

Had one of these for many years running a navigational chart program. These units were very expensive when first released and the screen quality is exceptional. As I understand it Windows 10 does not support Windows Mobile devices like this at all so the ability to use Mobile Device centre or Windows Active sync is gone. Fortunately I kept my old laptop with Windows 7 and that still works fine, with the necessary drivers to communicate with the Axim. I recently bought a second one as I'd be very upset if I were to lose or damage my original. They do develop faults, main one is the battery latch microswitch failing. Plenty of useful videos on line showing how to fix that.

You can add programs that are PDA supported and I have been able to that, you have a choice of cards that can be inserted into the card slot. it uses SD but not the SDHC cards as these are not compatible with this Palm computer, the compact flash CFII are compatible even the higher speed transfere rated cards, I have not tried the compact flash III, only what I use that suitable for my Canon EOS 400D Digital camera. I use the PDA mainly as a Diary and for word processing. It fits neatly into a jacket pocked and is no heavier than a small note book, but with more usefull additions, and a longer battery life than my laptop. I mainly got this to use where it is not practicable to use a laptop out of doors.
