I purchased this tablet after buying a ePad from China, which doesn't work well. I was told that the Archos tablet had 2.1(Eclair),but it doesn't it's 1.5(Cupcake). Cupcake is old but there is alot of apps that still install. The device is not bad as I payed only $100 for it with a free case. The tablet has good battery life as opposed to the ePad I had before, which has only 1 hour of battery life with wifi. I get 2 to 3 hours usage from the Archos' battery, even with wifi enabled. I was shocked to find out that the tablet lacks Google Market, but the Appslib store and downloadable Slideme market have good enough apps for me. Mind you Appslib needed a good update. I even found a working Youtube app. Although the ads say it has Youtube it doesn't out the box. But on the web you can find a working app of Youtube. Another thing that shocked me is you can not add alot of apps to the device. It only has 24mb of internal RAM for apps sadly in Cupcake. This I hate.I added only my fave apps to the device anyway. And lastly another thing I hate is the device will freeze up from time to time if you use more than one app at a time ,even though it has a 600mhz processor. It is similar to my old Nokia 770 Internet Tablet I had. It had a 400mhz processor and 128 of RAM and 2 gigs of storage. The Archos has 8 gigs of space and 256mb of RAM. So it is faster. My other ePad has a 600mhz Via processor and 256 of RAM. About the same. The battery has died on my ePad though and I have to use it plugged into the power. Touch screen on the Archos tablet is not too bad,but you have to force it at times. Although if you use a fingernail it is better. It lacks multi-touch but I hardly use that anyway. It lacks a webcam for video chat but does allow for audio chat. All in all,the Archos is not bad. It has a decent music player,Aldiko ebook reader is ok,video player is ok,and if that isn't enough there are custom Roms with more RAM and even Market. For the price it is a stable device. If you can live with the occasional freeze up and only a small amount of apps ,than it is ok. I highly recommend using a custom Rom with the tablet. I think I made a wise decission buying this. I got a better tablet than my old Nokia 770 and it has better battery than my ePad. Still this is not a iPad. Down the road I will get a used iPad. But for now this suits me fine.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This is a great little gadget that you can use to wheel around the internet . The screen is huge and very bright no more squinting at those tiny screens . You can add a micro memory card to this device with movies etc , other devices like the IPAD you cannot do this . The only thing that bugs me about it is that it wont play flash video ie you tube ect . But if you want the web and to watch movies or record movies and t.v shows this is the unit for you . I forgot to mention it is fairly quick on the internet , hey ! just get one
Don't be confused with the "ARCHOS 7 INTERNET TABLET"; the "HOME TABLET" and that are two different units all together. The "HOME TABLET" runs only up to the Android OS version of 1.5 which leaves alot of consumers short of maxium potential. There are are lot of apps that require OS v1.6 or higher which mean your only limited to what now is outdated. In its time, it was a great item to have, lots of productivity that could've been done. If your interested in purchasing this unit, I would have to highly recommend to save your money for a "Apple iPad" (v1 or v2) or otherwise purchase the other version by Archos, the "Archos 7 Internet Tablet". -KraziGlue
Well it won't set any speed record on the web but it a nice tablet for the price What you get with this device is a very good ebook reader and one of the best looking video playback screen I've seen for this price range. With only Android 2.1 you are limted as for apps but a lot are workable on this device. It is not the best for most games....too slow. If you buy this, buy it for what it is not what you think you can make it. Go to the Archos forum for lots of tips but some push this little tablet too far. The Amazon app store Android Slideme add a lot to what you will get out of this device. Here are a few must have Google services app,(comes with gmail, maps, voice and more),Tunein Radio,Kindleand the Dophin HD browser.
luckily for me, the main reason for buying this tablet was for reading ebooks b/c i would probably get pretty frustrated w/ it, otherwise. first of all, it's the first (?) android version- which i was fully aware of- so it's not compatible w/ android market, only appslib, which leaves much to be desired. the tablet is very limited as to the availability of compatible apps. there aren't very many that i find necessary, or useful, really. plus, b/c the OS is also dated- relatively speaking- and makes the overall technology of the tablet itself seem sort of prehistoric... sluggish performance, unresponsive key press, graphics & resolution are both unrefined, etc,. sometimes even just using it to read can be annoying. not to sound completely negative about the tablet, or anything, i just think it would be worth spending the extra bit of money for a tablet with a slightly more up-to-date operating system, or the buyer will be disappointed.Vollständige Rezension lesen
