The thing to like most about this lens is price! Compared to the prices on Nikon lenses, they're dirt cheap. I'll admit I was concerned a little about quality, but, I use it on my D90, shooting aperture priority, at 5.6 or above and the results are great. Good color, good sharpness and a minimum of vignetting. I've had a similar happy experience with a Quantaray 28-90 mm zoom on a Nikon F5 film camera, it became one of my favorite lenses. This one may well becoma favorite. too! I used it at a wedding this past week and the results were excellent. It has a plastic mount, so it's not as tough as the Nikon 18-105 or 18-135, but if you treat it with a little gentleness, it will hold up well. If not, you can buy two of them for what a Nikon zoom will set you back. The sharpness is very good, up to an 11X 14, above that, I don't know. But it is a great buy, especially on Ebay. A lot of purists will turn their noses up at this lens; but to me, value is the key, and for the money, this is a good lens for portraiture and general purpose photography. For sports, it may not be quick enough. But for family photos, travel, senics, almost anywhere where speed is not a prime factor, it will serve you very well.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I am just an average guy who happens to enjoy photography. I bought this lens which is a Sigma 18-125mm f3.5/5.6 for the reason of decreasing my lens change in the field, as I was using a 28-80. I find I get more sky when shooting lightening and for those times I need to be a little closer I can also do that. The lens itself takes beautiful photos. I do however continue to look for a newer camera. So from my point of view if your looking for an great all around lens, to me this is it.
I figure that if Canon's going to put out a near-identical lens this fall, it means someone's doing something right. I've had the OS and non-OS versions of this lens and loved them both. Solid build, easy zooming. Focus can be a bit noisy, but not too bad. OS is longer-running per use than Canon's IS, but if there's significant battery drain, I can't find it. Lens is more than sharp enough for my purposes. I would recommend looking for ones selling in the $300 to $350 range new. Over $400, and you might as well consider a Nikon or Canon equivalent.
Very good lens for the money. It is made by Sigma. The lens it's well built; it has a metal mount. Good zooming range, light in weight, small, barely noticeble, making it excellent for a do it all traveling lens. The picture quality is very good, sharp images.
It was Sigma, so I thought it would be second class, but it isn't. It has a fast focus. It is compact for such a long throw. I couldn't be happier.
