The Sigma 70mm f2.8 DG EX macro is among the best 4 best macro lenses in the world: Canon 100mm f2.8L IS, Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR Micro and probably the sharpest one Sigma 150 f2.8 DG EX macro. Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX DG (special color corrected multi-coating and designed for any format APS or full-frame sensors) is absolutely sharp with great "bokeh" for macro shots and also portraits (sometimes too sharp for portraits). It fits very well in the APS cameras as a 100 or 112mm macro for that perfect distance in flowers & insects shots or as a super fast portrait lens. Fitted in a full-frame you'll get a great all purpose macro, landscape, portrait lens. I have had them all and I kept the 70mm and 150mm Sigmas. Since them I'm always ready for any kind of product, portrait and macro shooting. I'm a professional photographer based in NYC with 3 decades of experience.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This is easily a pro quality lens and build as well! Amazing sharpness throughout the range! Contrast is top notch! Build quality is great! Focusing is fast and relatively quiet for a non-HSM lens. Macro mode is not really a true macro mode, but more just a close-up mode, but it works amazingly well for flowers and the like! Color reproduction is outstanding! CA/PF's are well controlled and I have yet to have any issues with them with my copy! This is one of my favorite lenses! Great for portraiture, weddings, street shooting, etc. It easily compares with the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L counterpart. I shot the two side by side and went with the Sigma instead, far cheaper in cost, but performance was about equal in IQ, the Canon did however focus just a tiny bit quicker, but both locked on easily and accurately. You won't be disappointed!Vollständige Rezension lesen
I rented the Canon L 24-70mm 2.8 and compared it to this lens. Honestly I couldn't tell much of a difference. The Sigma produced a tad warmer feel. Nothing color correction in post or profiles that couldn't correct. Sigma AF makes noise. Canon AF is silent. Sigma is a bit heavier than Canon. The AF speed on both lenses seemed the same. I found the Sigma was a bit sharper. I bought the Sigma used for $360. I couldn't justify the price of the Canon lens just for a silent motor, lighter lens, and minor difference in optics. This is a great lens with a great price.
I'm not entirely blown away by this lens. It can be sharp, but definitely not at f2.8, or, I suspect, at slower speeds. It is very also heavy for a wide angle, which can introduce camera shake at lower speeds. Colour is good and edge to edge stability is also good, with relatively low CAs. It may take some time to learn how to get the best out go the lens.

I'm a novice photographer. But wanted something that would capture my track and field athletes in action. This seems to be doing the job just fine. I like the fast shutter speed, and the ease of use.
