Does what it's supposed to do. A very affordable low end touch screen phone with just enough features to make it basic and simple enough to the average user. The screen takes a little practice to get use to but after playing with it for a few hours it works very well. Would I recommend this phone, yes if you are looking for a smaller, lightweight, touch screen that is easy to handle and use this will work great. It's a Samsung which is in my opinion a plus as I have other Samsung products that have worked great. My rating would have been excellent but really this phone comes very close to it.
The battery life lasts forever. I've had this phone for four days now and I text constanstly (I'm not using internet, yet). I haven't even put it on the charger yet! (Aside from when I opened it up and charged it for the first time.) There's hardly any lag when switching applications. However, the touch-screen is ultra sensitive so sometimes I open something I'm not meaning to when scrolling. I also wish there was QWERTY when the phone is in portrait mode versus T9. Other than that, so far it's a great little phone.
First of all, let me tell you about the features. Its got a large touch screen which makes the phone feel like an iphone/ipod touch. The widgets make the phone really fun to use, for example some wiggets allow you to read your email or access your facebook profile without firing up your browser, that is, you can do that just by tapping on the widget. The camera is capable of taking very good pictures at a maximum of 2048x1536 resolution and the video recorder records at a 320x240 resolution. This is very good for a phone costing only about 200 bucks. The phone doesn't lag when browsing around, it opens applications really fast. It is also very light, it is much lighter than much phones out there. Sometimes you can forget that you are holding a phone because it is very light. The sound is very loud and of high quality on this phone, you will be able to listen your music very well. The earphones that come with the phone are very bad but the phone speakers might do the trick in some cases. The Video player is capable of playing videos at 15 fps(frames per second), not HD but lokks like HD on the phone's large screen. The phone features Quad band Edge support. It is quite fast on some networks. However, some networks, like Orange, restrict some features. For example, no youtube videos. I use Orange and I can't watch youtube on my phone. This is very bad for some people. And also, the Edge might be very slow for some operators, mine is very very slow, I can say that it is a 30kbps connection. Slower than 56K. However, some operators(good ones like AT&T) have very fast Edge connection and you'll be able to enjoy your browsing. The phone lacks wifi but like I said before, some operators offer fast Edge connection so you won't be needing wifi in that case. Maximum supported memory is 16GB, that is, you can only insert a MicroSD card not bigger than 16GB. The phone is very customisable, you can add new features to it yourself. For example you can create your own widgets. There is a tutorial on Samsung website, so, if you are the type of person who likes to customise to the max, you'll love this phone.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Pros: touch interface works great, applications run well, the PCStudio CD that comes with the phone is a nice addition, camera is much better than I expected, sound quality when on a phone call are nice Cons: Battery power is more poor than listed because the phone runs for about 1 1/2 days with about 4 hours of phone call usage and 20ish texts and then its needs charging. Charger that came with the phone is for the United Kingdom, this was NOT specified in the description so in the meantime I've been using the data cable for charging, which is not very convenient because it requires me to have my computer on in the first place in order to be able to charge the phone. When the package arrived, the actual box containing the phone inside had some wear and tear, but the materials inside were undamaged.Vollständige Rezension lesen
After much research and thought about this phone, I chose to finally order one. I have had problems with other phones and was concerned about plopping down more money. But I have had this phone for over 4 weeks now, and I can say this is the BEST phone I have ever owned! It is VERY easy to use and loaded with everything I demanded in a phone. Honestly the only thing missing is the flash for the camera, but other than that, the camera is excellent as well, and has a lot of great settings to use, especially the one where it will not take a picture if the subject has their eyes closed! When I got my phone, I just popped in my sim card and calls worked excellently. I get far better reception than on any of the 8 or so phones my family has owned with T-mobile so far. An important, and very time saving thing I can share, is when you get your phone, take it to a T-mobile store and ask them to help you set it up for messaging and pictures along with video. At my store they called tech support FOR me and set it all up for me. There are a few apps that will not work, as they are set up for the European market I believe, but none I really miss or could not replace. I actually hope to one day find a way to unlock the phone and actually remove them. And a great site to find FREE apps for this phone, including many games can be found on: http://gallery.mobile9.com/c/samsung-s5230-java-software_2176/3/ I have tried many myself, and after downloading the very small game apps to my computer, I used the Samsung New PC Studio software that comes with the phone to drop them into my phone's java folder and then, using the phone, opened them up to install them from there! Easy as it gets! Now, for the phone itself! The touch screen is PERFECT. Very responsive and seems to even be intuitive! I have large fingers, and I feel like an expert with this phone. You can tilt it for the qwerty, but I prefer to use the T9 option. Both work fantastic. I love the scrolling screens, which give you three to a screen set to choose from. The "widgets" are easy to use, and they even have a google app widget which I use the most. You can use MP3 songs for ringtones, including songs you prepare with The Ringtone Maker (free)Which you can find here: http://download.cnet.com/The-Ringtone-Maker/3000-10440_4-10516244.html You can set a different ringtone for each caller on your list, along with adding a caller ID Photo for each as well. I have also used their great ALARM to wake up with setting an MP3 song as my wake up alarm! Music sounds pretty great on the included headphones, but add a decent micro-sd card to make sure you have lots of memory for videos and songs! Video is great as well, as the external speaker sounds great. The software that comes with it will actually convert a video you transfer to the phone to the proper format to play on your phone! (LOVE THAT) The added radio is a great feature as well! I even like the little "roll the dice" game like the more expensive phones have! Over all, as I said before, this is the best phone I have ever had! I found some great cases for it on E-bay along with a screen protector cut to fit perfectly. (this works without effecting the touch sense at all!) The rest of my family now wants this phone, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!Vollständige Rezension lesen
