Look Back in Anger first premiered on London's West end in 1956. The shocking and often brutal portrayal of married life shocked audiences then and it is still shocking today. But something about these characters draws me into their world. Their fragile humanity and stark reality remind me of my own anger and desperate longings for love and acceptance. There is no where to hide when watching this DVD of the stage play adapted for film. The two leads are portrayed by the explosive Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh. Jimmy Porter is and angry young man. He feels passed over by the world. He married Allison, she is from a much higher social class and Jimmy resents this. He torments her about it daily, spouting his social dogma. There is a sense of a powder keg about to blow. All the action takes place in their sad little flat which they share with Cliff and Helena. I defy you to watch this film and not have feelings of hate, compassion, disgust, love, terror, amusement, and there is a moment at the end when Emma even takes us into the pit of hell. It is a wild ride. One you will want to take over and over again(with a hankie).Vollständige Rezension lesen

"A" marks for this play/movie. As good or perhaps even better than the older one. Emma Thompson seems to have an inner glow.
From the start, I thought I was in a theatre. This is a piece for the brie and chablis set from Greenwich Village, not for an Oakie from Muskogie, or even one who professes to like the off-beat in the arts. Great actors, doing a fine job, just not my kind of vehicle.
