I wanted, when buying this super wide, to get the top of the top. This lens, as all Leica lenses, is very very expensive. Undoubtedly, it is a very very good lens, but not excellent. Not excellent does not mean that this lens is not a very goopd lens. 20 mm super wides are very very difficult to produce, and even the best ones are clearly behind the great majority of 50 mm lenses in term of resolution, edge sharpnesss, chromatic aberration correction and distorsion. So, please, do not dream, one 20 mm resolving like a 50 mm Summicron, Planar or Pancolar does not exist on the planet. More, there is a real variability in lenses, even in the most costy ones. So, what I say is valuable only for my particular copy. However this copy in undoubtely intact and was never opened. The best in my lens : mechanical construction and quality of the lenses surface is fantastic. Resolution (at f 11) is very good and homogeneous, especially over the edges and the corners. Glass clarity and brilliancy are superb, as in all Leica lenses. Colours are very clean and saturated. Now, less perfecct : a little but visible residual distorsion, you can see on seascape shots for example. In my mind an overcorrected contrast and a lack of transitional values when shooting very contrasty scenes or in countries with very bright and contrasty light, as in the tropics. The worst: even at F11 evenness of illumination is not good and there is a quite visible darkening of the edges for example in the colour of the sea when shooting seascapes. Conclusion : not so much better than than some old lenses costing 4 or 5 times less (for example excellent copies of Flektogon 4/20), and on the particuliar point of evenness of illumination, visibly less good. So, is it worth the price? Probably yes for very rich or lens snob buyers, but debatable for the others.Vollständige Rezension lesen
