King of the Lost World is a mystery movie that is itself a bit of a mystery? The plot is straight out of "Lost" though we are treated to all of it's monster mysteries early instead of wondering for an extended period. (ie: 3 seasons!) The Plot: a plane crashes for unknown reasons on a tropical island. Survivors try to organize & secure rescue. Unlike "Lost", we are treated to a multitude of attractive women who, for some reason, decided to fly wearing very skimpy attire. We are also shown the main creature of the film, a CGI King Kong wannabe. A group sets out to try to find the plane's cockpit, radio & black box. Along the way they come in contact with a giant spider, dragons, man eating vines & giant scorpions. They also run afoul of the local natives, survivors of other plane crashes that have degenerated into savages & turn those selected to become part of their tribe with a potion straight out of "Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom!" The movie also borrows original "The Lost World" character names like Jon Roxton, Ed Malone, Challenger & Summerlee, who in interestingly a photographer instead of a distinguished professor & is a woman! Needless to say, original ideas are not big here! The Cast: As expected, this is filled with unknowns, including many of the production staff, but it does feature veteran actors Bruce Boxleitner & Steve Railsback. It is a real wonder why these 2 bothered with this film! Boxleitner plays Lt. Challenger (despite the Colonel Eagles on his collar! One of many discrepancy's of this film!) an Air Force officer assigned to destroy nuclear weapons on downed planes. (How did he know he'd be crashing near one?) Challenger is an enigma for much of the movie keeping to himself. Railsback plays Larry, just one of the passengers. He has very few lines & really has little to do with the plot. Hope he got a decent payday out of it! The rest of the cast is a who's who of B horror & sci fi if you take the time to look at their credits. As I said, there are plenty of HOT women in skimpy attire. The cast also features some of the many mysteries of this movie. Actors give performances that are decent, but for many, it's a few lines, then they disappear?! One woman, who is supposedly a doctor is sent by her doctor husband to go with the searchers. she chickens out & goes back to the crash sight. It is the last we ever see of her! Another is yet another female doctor who stays with the party. She pretty much stays in the shadows & is hardly ever seen. Her only moment & lines come when Summerlee becomes sick & she attends to her. Even her death happens in such a hidden way that unless you are paying attention, you won't see it! Disappearing & shadowy characters are a huge part of this flick. The survivors that stayed behind are attacked & captured by the natives & that is the last we see of them except for the male doctor. The Effects: The CGI is fair at best! All the creatures, except the vines, are CGI. It's typical B movie effects. Not very realistic, but better than the rubber monsters of 50s-70s! Overall: I saw this film on The Sci Fi channel & it was pretty cut up. I decided to give it a shot un-cut & see if it was any better. It wasn't! I really can't recommend this film at all! The story was too choppy, there were too many unexplained happenings & stupid disjointed plot twists, fair effects & just a very bad feeling that you've just wasted a part of your life you can't get back!Vollständige Rezension lesen
A jet crashes in the jungle, where the passengers are terrorized by giant spiders, scorpions, flying lizards, and a giant gorilla. Poor movie, poor special effects. The computer generated monsters look as bad as a 1950's rear-screen projection! Can't even call this one a B Movie! Bruce Boxleitner is a pretty decent actor, but this movie just isn't up to his abilities.

Did anyone who dealt with the making of this movie know what they were doing? Special effects were anything but special. the story line borrowed from many movies and TV shows and not borrowed well. In the trash where it belongs.Woof!
This movie is 'average' its classic is amazing in its original format--- this one does not do the first justice., in my opinion
