Good balance of price versus performance. Cooling requirements are modest so it doesn't need a huge heatsink.
The Intel Pentium E2140 is not actually a Pentium at all, as it is based on the far more modern Allendale core, which is essentially a Conroe stripped of half its cache. This means that you get the same high performance per clock from this CPU as you would from a more expensive Core 2 Duo CPU, but at a very low price. Plus if you are willing to overclock (this will void any warranty on the product) the E2140 will easily reach 2.5-3GHz on standard cooling, giving it a HUGE boost in performance comparable to a CPU worth 10x the price. With low cost, high performance CPUs from Intel such as the E2140, there has never been a better time to upgrade.
This was the slowest of the dual core pentiums and thus had the lowest power dissipation, using the Speedstep feature to choose as cool and quiet as you wish, with 65 watts normal and 8 watts resting. Operates in either 32 bit or 64 bit mode. The 65nm Cedar Mill core L2 stepping has a 1 MB level 2 cache which is twice the Celeron allocation and though normally adequate has not the flexibility of the 2 and 4 MB caches of the faster chips, but substantial power savings do result. Electricity prices have risen strongly and as they are likely to remain high in future, this economy aspect of the chip is perhaps its best feature. A mainstream 400 watt PSU will cope well enough with these power demands unless you have greedy peripherals like dual high end SLi graphics cards and in fact a basic system with up to 50 watt PCI express graphics card needs only a 300 watt PSU. An excellent value choice new or second hand.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Good budget processor, very overclockable due to low FSB of 800mhz (quad-pumped i.e. 4 X 200mhz). When overclocked, rivals mid-end Core 2 Duo processors at a fraction of the cost. Pro's = cost, overclocking factor Con's = only that the cache is less than more expensive Core 2 Duo's Overall, great value for money
