This is my first encounter with the new Intel i7 Quad Core Processors. It turned out to be an amazing processor. Do not have any second thoughts about purchasing one of these. The time is right as far as price and batch quality goes. Make sure you buy one from a newly manufactured batch! I ordered the Socket 1366 i7-930 so I can easily upgrade to the 6 Core i7-980 Extreme monster when the price drops as they always do in 6 months or so. Especially when the new 8 Core and 16 Core CPUs are released to the masses. I went with the i7-930 because it can easily be over clocked to 4.1GHz on air with a good cooler and high quality heatsink compound. I'm only going to overclock it to 3.4GHz, A little better then i7-975 extreme CPU as it is the exact same chip inside. The only difference is they lock the multiplier so they can sell the faster ones for more money. I always wait until the new CPUs have been out for almost a year so they have all the bugs worked out so I don't have to do it. Same thing with Operating Systems. You should always wait until after the first service pack comes out before you migrate your systems to the new platform. Parallel conversion is the best if you have more then 1 system also. Test it out on 1 system to get used to it before you fully commit. If you follow these 2 rules it will save you countless head aches. I've been building custom PCs since 1984 so I learned my lesson not to be an early adopter just for bragging rights a long time ago. You end up paying $1000 for a CPU that will be $250 6 to 8 months later and the CPU Batches will have all the original problems fixed. I hope this review helps someone. If only one person reads it and understands the value of my trade secretes I have just given away writting this review will have been worth the time it required to do so.It will save you time and money. Thanks for taking the time to read my review. If you understood what I have written and found it informative please take the time to rate it as helpful. George in N.E.PAVollständige Rezension lesen
I use to run a Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16ghz processor. I was debating for a long time in to upgrading to a Core 2 Quad processor but didn't want to spend another few hundred bucks on something that I would want to upgrade again shortly after. After building a Core 2 Quad computer for a friend of mine and actually comparing and personally benchmarking a Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs my processor there wasn't actually a whole lot of gain, so if I was going to spend any amount of money then why not invest it in to the next generation of processors. I purchased the i7 930 as well as a motherboard and DDR3 ram to upgrade my computer, and it not only impressed me but exceeded all of my expectations. Running the i7 930, with Asus P6T motherboard, and 6gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Tri Channel ram I am able to encode 5 videos at once to MP4 format in under 30 minutes while still being able to use my computer as if nothing was going on. Intel has really mastered the hyper threading technology in the new i7 processors. From what I can see from what I have read and from the core performance in task manager, is that the processor reserves a certain amount of processing power instead of maxing it out so that when you open new tasks there is reserve power left to use instead of having to take from the tasks already processing, so you can do a lot, I mean a lot of stuff, and still use your computer as if nothing is going on. I definitely recommend if your considering upgrading from a Core 2 Duo, to not get a quad, but hold out and save for the i7 setup, it is a little more costly, but you will not be disappointed at all.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This was my first time to put together my first system. I wanted an i7 CPU but I did not want to pay a lot for it. The i7-930 was a decent price for a true i7 CPU. When I opened it it was a bit over whelming at first, mainly because it was the first time I tryed to build my own system. The instructions where simple, all you had to do was line up the notches and slide it home. After that you just put the fan on. The fan that comes with the CPU has it's own thermal paste placed onto the contact. If you wanted better thermal paste you can buy your own. The fan it self was easy to install to, all you need to do is line the pins with the holes on the mother board and make sure the power wire can reach the power connection on the mother board. One the pins are lined up to the holes on the mother board apply firm preasure to the pins till they click into place. then give the pins a turn to ensure a nice grip. One they system was powered on, everything ran smoothly. I am please at how well it runs with basic aplications that I am doing right now.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Preformed the Same as my core i7 920 with the below specs.. With a 2.6 to 2.8 jump in frequency the chip is exactly the same as the 920. Very Happy with the overall performance , A Great Processor.. Pros: I have it at 4.2 MHZ, EVGA X58 Motherboard, with G.SKILL Trident 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000), takes some tweaking in the bios, and of course aftermarket cooling like Zalman 120mm and a case with lots of perforations and great airflow and fans, with all that said, runs 35C idle and no more than 62 for a few sec under full load. Great stability, Its listed as a quad core, but its really 8 cores, wish it had 12 like the i980x. Save your money and buy this, more than $300 for a processor is not worth it economically nor will the notice in speed be noteworthy unless you plan on overclocking the 980x or 970x to 6.o mhz or above, but you will need water cooling and kill your electric bill. I bought it because i7 is the new trend and my wolfdale e8400 core 2 duo seems pretty old, 2 years old.Vollständige Rezension lesen
