I first bought a Handspring Visor with a monochrome display. The color display on the Visor Prism is backlit and much easier to see. The Prism has an internal rechargeable battery. Some of the aftermarket products like a single cable with no cradle that you can use to both charge and backup your Prism on your laptop or desktop computer are great. The best part is the expansion port in the upper back of the Prism. I have extra memory modules -- one with my software library, a supply of full books to read and another module with my extensive book library. I have modules with French and German that came in handy the last time I was in Europe. I have several programs on the Prism including an enhanced datebook, a world clock with two time settings and two alarms. The database program is a powerful aftermarket product called "HanDbase" and with it you can create very sophisticated compilations of data. One drawback is the size. I would prefer a smaller, lighter unit. When it came out it was comparable in size and weight to other brands and had more power. I regret that the plug-in modules are no longer being made. That part of the design was genius. Fortunately there are still people writing programs for that OS and there are libraries of software for the Palm OS online. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get started with a PDA and wants to see what power you can pack into a small package.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I love my Visor. It is nice, easy to use - organizing contacts is a snap. If you're on a budget, don't need to surf the net, but like to have an address book with regular addresses in it, a calendar, a few games handy, and already have a cellphone, this is a simple way to do it. I bought it because I like downloading books to it to read on the go. I bought this one in particular because the battery went out in the previous one I had and I couldn't replace it (another ebay purchase with extremely unsatisfactory results). However, the battery is replaceable - easily so. The color screen is easy to see and the icons and lists are easy to nagvigate. I don't know why Handspring (later bought by Palm) stopped making these - I would have readily bought another one new if I could have.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I bought this for my father since he was showing an interest in PDAs and couldn't find the cable for the Avigo I gave him years ago. It's still possible to download the desktop software and manual for this unit from Palm. (Although this product was developed and sold by Handspring, Palm is supporting it.) In teaching my dad to use it I remembered how much I liked it. Some of the newer software for Palm OS probably won't run on this older version (I didn't think to check what OS v. it was) but I have plenty of great software licenses that do run on it. Check Handango or Palmgear as well as Palm's site for (mostly) reasonably priced games and apps. This runs grafitti 1 which I prefer to the new updated grafitti 2.
I love the color screen. The ease of operation. All the software you can get for it. I have three of them. I use to be able through omnisky to send and receive emails anywhere in the car and etc. However, this is not available now. I hate it that handsprings does not support this pda anymore and now it is getting hard to fine new things. I mostly use my prism to play games on and to keep personal data on. If you see one of these i am sure you will enjoy it. I have three for myself and one for each grandchild they love it too.
The Prism does exactly what I needed it for. I am very simple when it comes to electronics. As long as I can turn it off and on and get the basic tools that I bought the item for then all is well in my world. I don't know about the things it can do when it comes to downloading from your computer. But the calendar, notes and addresses I manually enter is all I need. Great!
