axim was previously owned but in very good condition - price for pda w/some accessories & a hp jornada 568 pda was $15. you just can't beat that. the screen size & clarity of it grabbed me the most & sealed the deal. it's a little heavier than todays devices & not quite as streamlined. but the unit has a lot of features & is easy to use. connects to internet for email/surfing, etc., personal calendar, contacts, excel, notepad, windows media, mp3, ereader - lots of goodies & you can add add'l apps thru your pc. it has 2 types of extra storage potential - memory cards or compact flash. i am quite enjoying exploring & putting it to good use.
I bought this Dell Axim X5 a few days ago, and I am well pleased with my purchase. Even though the handheld is approximately 9 years old, the features it has are still quite current. It has software which is of the pocket pc variety of the era indicated, but the features of this older software is still current; therefore, the methods of using the software, input and output, are very much the same as todays 2010-11 software. Also, it has an eReader capability which is older but quite current in that ebooks of many types can be downloaded for current use. It also has wi-fi capability; however, i'm still working on how to activate this feature. The device has a nice sturdy feel and look. My sense is that I'm holding something of quality and duraility when I'm using it.
My purchase of the Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC is one of the best purchasing decisions I have made in a long time. It's ratings are true to its performance and capability. It can do many of the things that a desktop or laptop can do. It is easy to use as well as fun. It has been a huge help in organizing and streamlining my life. Compared to my Palm Tungsten E, it is the difference between a hamburger and a filet mignon! My husband recently bought a HP IPAQ 1955 and is disappointed that he didn't look into the Dell. It is a great unit that will serve me well for a very long time. In the future I will buy another Dell. I would definitely recommend this unit to others as it would be very familiar to them (the unit operates on Windows OS and has available basic Microsoft Office features). This unit also has the capability for many add on features (MP3 player, WiFi, movies, TV, GPS, and many other programs).I truly believe that others will find the Dell Axim X5 to be a worthwhile purchase.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This little Pocket PC is really fantastic. It has really helped me to stay on track with everything that I need to do and to remember. The appointment calender with alarm and task programs that show up on my start menu make it hard for me to forget things. I love not having all those misc. slips of paper for everything. Not only do I use it to schedule appointments for me and my family, I write down all my lists of to do, and even my groceries. It has wonderful features that make it really intuitive to use, especially if you are used to using a Windows based program. The letter recognition and transcriber feature make entering appointments or working with the Microsoft Pocket Word program especially easy. I bought mine used and knew it didn't come with the Sync software, however by going on line I was able to find what I needed and download it really fast and easy. After downloading the software the PC synced with my desktop computer beautifully. I read some reviews that talked about this Pocket PC having issues with Syncing, but I have not experienced that. Mine came with 64mb memory, however I have ended up purchasing an additional 4GB of memory for it. I found that I couldn't load the music and photos that I wanted with only the 64mb, but for a additional $19.00 for the 4 GB card I felt that was a reasonable. I dont have WI-FI on this yet so I cant comment on that feature, however I do plan on getting that chip soon so I can surf the net and email where ever I may be. Over all, I give this little machine a two thumbs up. Its a good entry level pocket PC that is easy to use and comes with all the organization programs as well as some good business programs too.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC is a great PDA, so much better than a palm. However, a wifi card is really confusing to set up (and im a tech-smart person), and if i use it for more 15-20 minutes, it gives me a headache although it usually goes away within 2 hours. I also must note that the wifi card makes it so i have to hit the reset button instead of power to turn it on.(Soft reset [no lost data] ) Reccomend buying the pocket pc 2003 upgrade ($2-$10 on ebay) because it looks nicer and is faster. Internet Explorer doesn't fit page to screen size, kind of annoying (also can't open anything that comes in as a pop-up).seems like a lot of problems, but all are small, works great, very durable, family so impressed someone else wants one, cheap and great value, very useful!!!
