I bought this Mk II lens because I 'lost' my 16-35 MkI version, I use it on both my 5D MkII and my back-up 5D, I often have to shoot the insides of canal narrow boats and for this and any interior shoots there can be few lenses to rival it. The 2.8 aperture gathers light fantastically, this lens is NEVER out of the bag. The Mk I version? well after I had bought this my wife found the 'missing' lens (knocked on the floor and rolled under the desk!) so I've now had a chance to view (and try) then side by side, the principal difference is that the MkII is about 8 or 9 mm longer in the body and I notice that the MkII doesn't suffer from the very slight vignetting that could be seen in the otherwise excellent MkI when used at full width. Both lens are superb, there expensive but why pay all that money for your camera body and stick a cheap aftermarket lens on it?Vollständige Rezension lesen
If you're looking for an ultra-wide zoom for your full-frame canon camera, look no further than the 16-35 2.8L II. Don't worry about the price. Just buy it. If you understand the inherent limitations of an ultra-wide zoom, you'll be left speechless by the performance of this lens--I am. With its wide focal lengths and apertures, it makes a great indoor party lens. It's also wonderful for photojournalist work. Other than the extreme corners, the images are flawless wide-open. Because of its wide focal lengths, the lens is not really suitable for traditional portrait work but its perfect for capturing groups and contextual or environmental portraits. The wide aperture is more useful for utilizing available light than blurring backgrounds, though with a close subject, appealing background blur can be achieved. While the front element is large, the lens is not heavy, and has superb Canon-L build quality. Distortions seem to be relatively well controlled for such a wide lens. Color and contrast rendition are top notch, so from f8 to f16 this makes a very nice urban- / landscape lens. I was initially hesitant to get this lens considering that it costs about twice as much as the admittedly excellent Canon 17-40 4L. Now that I have it, I have no regrets. It's shockingly sharp wide-open and the extra 1-stop advantage provides a critical difference for indoor available light photography. The image quality at 24mm also appears to be significantly nicer than my 24-105 4L IS. All-in-all, this is a great lens, and well worth its high cost. I highly recommend it.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The color quality, contrast and sharpness of this lens is superb and distinct from the 11-16mm Tokina, and the 17-55mm Canon. Fantastic on the Canon C100 -- wide-angle to medium zoom lens. -- On the 5DmkIII it's a killer extra-wide angle lens, and a sharp 35mm standard. The zoom is internal, so no extending elements on the outside. Has a fairly close, nearly macro, focusing distance. For video, it's the perfect companion to the 24-105mm. The cost is scary and this is often referred to as a specialty lens because it's so wide -- popular among landscape photographers. But I shoot a lot of wide and medium angles using natural light (documentary) and this lens has become my new workhorse. It's also relatively easy to focus with, which makes it great for run and gun situations. If you don't shoot a lot of wides, and this would be more of a specialty lens for you, save some money and buy a budget alternative. This lens is great, but not worth the cost unless you're really gonna get good use out of it. There are more affordable options out there, and having used them, they work arguably just as well, but having used this lens, I have no regrets. This is an investment in more than just dollars and cents.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Purchased for use with a full frame 5D, this is the widest lens I currently own. My prior wide-angle photography was done with a 24mm. Prior to that a 35mm lens. I expected this lens to simply add to my bag of photo tools with an increase of available focal lengths but it has since become a must have. This lens renders fantastic landscapes especially with clouds in the sky. The 16mm focal length regularly wows me with shots that could not be obtained without it. This lens also excels in tight spaces. You will also find that tight spaces tend to have low light. The f/2.8 aperture you get with this lens is perfect for its many uses. Just try taking decent photos of real estate (e.g. bath rooms) with any other lens. Another amazing use that I found for this lens is underground caves with flash lighting. The list grows for me just about every day. Another plus is that I can put this lens in a bag with my 35-350mm and have a two lens does just about everything solution. I do this often. There really is NOTHING about this lens that I could complain about. While full frame users might be tempted to get by with 24mm or 28mm wide angle lenses, APS-C users will greatly appreciate what this lens provides. My spouse regularly uses this lens on a 50D as you need such a lens to combat the wide angle limitations of a 1.6 crop factor. The lens is reasonably small and light for an "L" lens with such excellent build quality. Image quality is stunning. I have never noticed vignetting even with a full frame camera. You need a protective filter to achieve weather sealing and because it is such a wide angle, you will need a slim/thin filter to avoid vignetting. This lens is well worth the money if you enjoy wide angle photography.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Having a new Sigma 12-24mm f-4.5 wide angle lens in my inventory, I pondered whether or not it was worth it to spend this kind of money for duplication somewhat at 16-35mm. I have found many occasions whereby I cannot get far enough away in a room or venue to use my 24-70mm lens, and the light level is low or flash is not allowed. This fast lens f-2.8 allows me to put this lens on one camera, and my 24-70mm or 70-200mm lens on the other. I can shoot indoors easily without a flash, and I can get super close to photograph a bee on a flower. It is sharp as a tack, and image quality is superb as they are with all my other high quality Canon glass. The ability to shoot in low light conditions is amazing. I would advise anyone who shoots weddings, real estate, tours or venues in rooms to purchase this lens now. The fall in the dollar has already made this lens increase in price by $250 since December.Vollständige Rezension lesen
