I'll preface by saying that officially, this product does not support eGPU applications. That said, it works (and not just for me, but also for a bunch of other people at TechInferno). I am using it with an nVidia GeForce GTX750Ti on a HP ZBook 15 G2 to obtain better graphics performance than possible via the laptop's internal GPU. This review is heavily slanted towards eGPU applications for people who are interested in them. Pros: 1) Great build quality and looks. 2) Easy to install. 3) Includes Thunderbolt2 cable. Cons: 1) The internal fan is noisy, with an annoying whine. However if you use it for eGPU, your video card has its own fan. I simply disconnected the fan (easy to do as it is held by screws and the power connector is a plug you can pull out) and that solved that particular issue. The video card's temperatures were not affected. 2) The included power brick is a 60W one. This means that you cannot feed a card with the full 75W that should be provided via the PCIe slot. However, using a more powerful power brick solves this issue. I had a leftover Dell 120W adapter with matching voltage and an identical plug. According to the manufacturer site, there is no problem connecting a 120W adapter to the enclosure to feed the full 75W through the slow. This solution has worked flawlessly. Just make sure you get a 12V/10A power brick. Getting the wrong voltage here can be fatal for your Thunder2. I really wish Akitio provided a more powerful brick by default. 3) As this is not designed for eGPU applications, you cannot use it with large video cards (no room) or with video cards that require additional power connectors (no additional power source) without modding the enclosure or getting quite creative. That would likely void your warranty, so do that at your own risk. That said, people have taken the insides of the Thunder2 enclosure and moved them to a larger case to enable them to run more powerful eGPUs. Summary: Good base for a DIY eGPU solution, but not perfect.Vollständige Rezension lesen

I'm using this product to play games like Overwatch, Counter-Strike Global Offensive and League of Legends on my Macbook Pro and it works kind of good, but not 100%. My setup: Macbook Pro 13" Retina mid 2014 256GB SSD 12V 10A Power Adapter (120W, and that's the maximum effect allowed for this item) Akitio Thunder 2 (This item) NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 750 Ti (STRIX) (Samsung T3 External 250GB SSD USB 3.0) - I have my Windows 10 Pro installation here. Installation: First I opened up the case and plugged in my GPU (GTX 750 Ti, I had to remove the fan to make this GPU fit into the case). I booted up Windows 10 on my Macbook and installed the drivers. I tried to download the drivers from Nvidia's website but it wouldn't allow me to install because I didn't have that graphic card connected to the computer. So I installed the drivers from the CD which came with the GPU. I shutdown the computer and connected the Akitio Thunder 2 box via the thunderbolt cable (which is included). At first I had trouble booting up. So I connected a second monitor but to my GTX 750 Ti card. Then it booted up. And there you go. I can now run Overwatch with good enough settings for me to play the game. That was impossible to do with the integrated graphic card. So, why not 100% excellent? - Sometimes my macbook wont boot Windows 10 when I have the box connected. So I have to hold down the power key and try again. After a few (usually the second) attempts it boots up again. - If I play with the case closed I get bluescreen because of the high temperature. (I've measured about 80 degrees (Celcius) (Still happens even if I use the mini fan included, but after a little while)) But it's a steady 50-55 degrees (C) with the case open, so it's still okey. Remember, this can change in the future. Akitio informs us on their website that this isn't supported as eGPU, but for now it works for me at least. So keep that in mind before you buy this. And remember, with the included power supply you won't be able to use any GPU. Because the box itself used about 35W to run. And with a 60W power supply there is only 25W left for the GPU to use, and that's far to low. The GTX 750 Ti (strix) uses 75W as maximum effect and with a 120W power supply it's possible to use it as intended.Vollständige Rezension lesen
