Makes for a good upgrade for an old Dell XPS 15 L502. Wasn't sure if the i7-2960XM was supported by Dell's firmware so decided to play it safe and go for this i7-2860QM instead.

Great Upgrade. Just be sure it's compatible and READ your laptop's Service Manual to know difficulty of installation. Don't forget thermal paste!
The good: If you have a compatible* laptop, this processor (M640) is the 2nd fastest you can possibly run. Only the M660 is faster, and even then only by 100mhz - so you're not missing out any noticeable performance vs. the often highest priced M660.
The bad: Compatibility can be confusing. The socket these processors use (Socket S1) basically went through 4 generations, you will want to be very sure what "generation" of processors your laptop supports. The "Turion II Ultra" line uses S1g3 (socket S1 gen 3). Just make sure to do some research before blindly buying a given "Socket S1" processor.
The ugly: Installation - be sure to find and READ the service guide for your laptop and what you will need to disassemble to upgrade the processor. Unlike a memory or SSD upgrade, most laptops don't have a nice cover or door you pop open and easily slot in your new processor. Expect that you'll probably have to completely tear down your laptop down the the motherboard, which is about as fun as it sounds (it's not).
Lastly don't forget to grab some thermal paste! After you spend that quality 2 hours re-assembling your laptop, wondering where those "extra" 2 screws went - the last thing you want is for the laptop to overheat because you forgot the thermal paste!
