Hold on it’s Joe Tex
In general I don’t like that much budget label releases due to audio quality of those items, however this particular package is quite a pleasant surprise. Hallmark label in recent past have had some duds , of really poor quality. This time around they’ve put they act together and compiled 20 tracks from Joe’s early years and they made good job of it . At the price I’ve paid ( £1.29) it’s no brainier. Go for it if you’re fan of 50’s early 60’s r’n’b and Joe Tex of course.

Giant of Southern Soul
Amazingly this is still the best ( legitimate )compilation of O V Wright ‘s early BackBeat/ABC singles , after almost 40 years since he left this world . Short of further dozen or so sides that would make complete 45s he ever released on those labels. It is about time that someone does a justice to the great man of deep southern soul and release his full catalog for 21st century. In meantime this ‘ll do .
