Once Upon Ago by Adrian Gwin
My dad, the late Adrian Gwin, wrote this (Once Upon Ago) and three other books: Never Grow Old, Rovin' the Years, and An Extra Mile. I love to read these stories, each of which began as a column in the newspaper for which he worked from 1942 to 2001, the Charleston Daily Mail. The paper is now defunct and has been absorbed into its former competitor, the Charleston Gazette. But Dad's books remain as collections of some of his best columns. The name of his column changed from time to time, some of those names including "Roving the Valley", "Our Man Gwin", "Looking Back", and maybe a couple of others. I highly recommend these books as entertaining and educational short reads. Join Dad as he visits and interviews fascinating folks and/or recounts those visits for you in print. You may find yourself at the end of each saying, "Tell me one more, Adrian." And he'll be glad to.

Helps one to do BOTH of the two main objectives in life (see review).
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich God has called each of us to do two things: (1) to get to know Him, and (2) to get others to know Him. If we don't know Him yet, that's OK; none of us did either at first. This book helps me to do both of those things.

His writing makes it seem as though the reader is on location. His other two books read the same way, in the vernacular of the readers of the southern West Virginia newspaper for which the original columns were written. For fifty years, Gwin was a reporter and feature writer for that paper--and those readers. This is his first of the three, each a compilation of columns of its era.
