An excellent piece of technical authoring for an ecxellent piece of technology
It is a book very well written that gradually, with great success and no pain at all, guides you through the amazing world of intel's legendary 8086 processor. It is a processor that shaped at large the information technology's revolution back at '80s. However, still remains a very attractive processor for experimental educational and embedded projects. It's ISA and ASM programming language, throughout the book are handled with extreme mastery and along with intel's "Microprocessors And Peripherals Handbook" Volumes 1 & 2 of 1989 or/and their updates of 1992, one can really do amazing work with this dude. However, the book is also a powerful stand-alone tool by its own. One can use one of the many 80x86 emulators available in the internet and complete a full scale training on this ISA by simply using just this book. Once I owned it but had lend it to someone back in '90s and never saw it again. I'm now preparing a workshop for young pre-college students on CISC & RISC ISAs & ASM programming and I'm happy that I found that book at ebay that I'll use for the CISC part of the programming. The authors, Russel Rector & George Alexy have done an excellent work.
