Excellent insight into life and times of Monmouth
Of value to all students of 17th century British history, the rebellion led by Monmouth was a harbinger of the “Glorious Revolution”three years after he had failed. Replete with insight into Charles II, James II, Lord Shaftesbury, and Robert Ferguson, Monmouth comes across as a humane warrior in an age noted for brutality. Well-written and fast paced, the author exhibits excellent scholarship.
